We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
They do not have a socialist economy. They are capitalist with strong welfare programs. Only capitalist economies can generate the wealth to have those programs. True socialist countries are all economic basket cases: USSR, N. Korea, Mao's China, Chavez's Venezuela, Cuba, etc.
Here is how they ACTUALLY work: They require a large and rich consuming country to buy their overpriced, over taxed goods so that their government has enough money to fund all the free stuff for their very small populations. If either of these two things are taken away (their small population and an accessible rich consumer country) they will go the way of all socialist countries.
