We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
There was a point in my life when I consciously decided I would never break the law. Yes I sometimes exceed the speed limit or change lanes without using my blinker. But I will not break the law. I guess it is possible I would be placed in such an untenable position that I might be forced to break the law to save a life or prevent injury but with that exception I stand by my decision. I say all this because I am sure there are a lot of people who will give these parents a pass on this. After all they were trying to help their children succeed and all that. But in fact they broke some serious laws and should have known better. Their moral compass didn't work for them. They had never made that consciously decision to be honest and law abiding. Sorry, there is a penalty that goes along with that decision. I hope they get the same justice that they would have wanted for Manafort.
I have never wondered over the last few years why the institutions of this country are sunk in the gutter and still feeling around for a bottom. It is the people in the institutions that make it what it is.
