We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
There is a reason socialists created public education in this country. The administrative state whether in government at the federal, state, or local level eventually becomes a scold and a thug. They are all about power, control, and money....any other function is irrelevant. All hail the propaganda machine.
Texas is convulsed over public school funding right now. I can barely bring myself to care. No matter how they split up the ever-increasing cost burden among the taxpayers, I can have no confidence the money will be spent on anything remotely relating to actual education.
When I worked as a Graduate Degree Coordinator in the graduate school of a state university (what that means is, when the students applied to graduate, I had to verify they had met their requirements and post their Master's degree to their transcript), the teachers from the College of Education were among the most clueless, arrogant, and yes, THE nastiest students I had to deal with. I believe, from that experience, that there is a certain psychological type of person who becomes a teacher, and that they are largely clueless about how the real world works because they have spent their entire lives, from childhood on, in classrooms.
