We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Rush, via Doug Ross:
Even if you are disgusted with Trump's personality, nobody should condone these political uses of government power. After all, it could be your guy next time - or you.

LIKE HIS PERSONALITY OR NOT, HE DOESN'T STEAL FROM US, NEITHER DOES HE PEDDLE INFLUENCE OR CONSTANTLY SEEK TO BE LIKED.
He just shakes up the long-accepted status quo: the US taxpayers are no longer the dummies who pay for the whole world yet get taken advantage of at every turn.
America needs him to keep shaking things up.
We need this man -- he fights.
He is a threat to the corruptocracy of the uniparty and administrative state and the corrupt will not rest easy until he is not looking over their shoulder. The corrupt have few talents that are not connected to fleecing the taxpayer and demanding more power over their peon class in order to keep them in line. They are mostly globalist communists with a sprinkling of national socialists to maintain the diversity of disfunction.
His personality is fine. First he is a New Yorker with all that carries with it. Secondly he is a real estate developer in NYC and no one "nice" can do that and survive. And then he is a self made billionaire who spent his life making deals and bluffing/running over those he dealt with. If anything, I am surprised at what a nice guy he is with most people especially the common man. I would never turn my back on Obama or anyone in his administration, never believe them, never trust them. I would trust Donald Trump and believe he would honor his word. So the fact that he can fight and fight dirty if he needs to is just fine with me.
Boy, you and I must be Siamese twins, connected at the brain.
It is also a message to anyone who might consider being part of his staff/administration or in any way connected with him.
Help Trump and we can come after you with as much intensity.
This country's "Law Enforcement" and its "Legal" system - and their families - had better understand what will be coming at them if President Trump is removed from office. REGARDLESS of how it is done.
Terrorists might be a threat to the US as a whole, but by and large, the anti-Trump tribe are not in the military or international business, so terrorists are not much of a threat to them. Trump - or any number of other people of whom Trump is only the lightning rod - is a threat to their power here in the US, specifically in Washington.
Get it straight. They do not care about world events and human beings, nor even events and human beings in flyover country, excepts as counters on the board of the game they are playing for power in DC and NY. They don't even hate Donald. They found him amusing, if risible, not so long ago. They live in fear of his threat to their power. Everything else is mere pose.
I don't much like Trump myself. But I am very clear in my mind what is style and what is substance, what is moral failing and what is treachery.
We saw this with a few minor figures, like Dinesh D'Souz. The SDNY is run by hard core leftists like Baharra who will attack anyone who defies the Deep State. They are asking for a violent revolution.
That part is completely lost on all the leftists I know.
We've all seen this clip: Giving the Devil the Benefit of Law
You forgot the AG Letitia James who has been overtly political about her bias against the Trump family root and branch. "Lock her up" may boomerang yet.
This reminds me of what the PTB did to Gov. Walker, including the sneaky, underhanded law fare, but, in Trump's case, on steroids.
I think his great crime was to include the aspirational, working middle at the decision table. He is at least trying to find a path for Middle America. I'm not sure anyone else is, though I'm willing to be informed. Meanwhile, the anti-Trumper's vision for the future of Middle America is grim and depressing.
I would fully support Trump if he mounted a Pinochet-style coup d'etat. But the US military is too corrupt to support such a move.
One doesn't have to hate Trump to understand that he has been implicated in criminal activities, and that Russian agents had infiltrated groups supporting the Trump campaign.
bob sykes: I would fully support Trump if he mounted a Pinochet-style coup d'etat.
Nothing like institutionalizing terrorism for promoting democracy.
The entire Russian collusion meme was invented by Hillary and Obama with intent to steal the election. It continued once they lost power as an effective diversion to prevent any investigation of their own many crimes. The "actual" Russian meddling you refer to occurred under Obama and under the eyes of his administration and NOT under Trump. The Russians and Chinese have meddled in our politics for decades and until now no one took it serious. But it is being exaggerated and conflated to fit the meme intended to overturn a lawful election and steal democracy from Americans. YOU know this to be true because it would be impossible to be informed on this subject and not know what is going on and still you continue to lie about it with intent to destroy Trump. THAT makes you a lying sleaze bag!
OneGuy: The entire Russian collusion meme was invented by Hillary and Obama with intent to steal the election.
Russia hacked into the DNC, then released the stolen information to cause maximum political damage. There is evidence people associated with the Trump campaign had knowledge of the hacks and schedule of releases. There is ample evidence that a lot of people in the Trump campaign were making inordinate contacts with Russian agents — then lied about it. We now know there is a nexus between Republicans, evangelicals, the NRA, and Russia. There are multiple ongoing criminal investigations. Some people are already headed to jail.
You can close your eyes, but the facts remain.
You spout the tribe's talking points very well, Comrade!
... and continue to have a problem with the meaning of the term: facts...
Only one political campaign was collaborating with the Russians during the 2016 election, and that was the Democrats.
Where do you think the Steele dossier came from? Thin air?? Hillary's campaign paid $12 million for it and then passed it on to the FBI to be used as evidence for getting a FISA wiretap - despite the dossier never having been verified and the only supporting documentation was a news article that was based on the same info.
"Russia hacked into the DNC, then released the stolen information to cause maximum political damage."
We don't 'know' if this is true for the simple reason that the DNC preferred that the event not be investigated by the FBI for fear of them getting their hands on DNC secrets/crimes. By all accounts it was WikiLeaks that got into their system AND not technically by hacking.
"There is ample evidence that a lot of people in the Trump campaign were making inordinate contacts with Russian agents"
Actually not true at all. Far fewer contacts than Hillary and her people made and the most talked about one in the Trump tower was a setup put together by Hillary's people to make Trump look bad. Hillary and the DNC should be investigated for that "dirty trick".
"then lied about it."
No one actually lied about it. What actually happened is that some of Trump's people, still unaware that they were being put into a perjury trap, failed to recall exact/precise events that matched the perjury trap setup.
"We now know there is a nexus between Republicans, evangelicals, the NRA, and Russia."
LOL Seriously, the NRA??? Yes Russia (someone in Russia) did indeed try to infiltrate the NRA. Did the NRA "collude"? Of course not just like those on Trump's team who were being set up they had no idea that Russia and the Democrats were conspiring against them. The NRA...LOL. Seriously? You want to hang your hat on that conspiriousy theory???
"There are multiple ongoing criminal investigations."
Yes there are and America shpould be outraged by the misuse of government power by those on the left. End the FISA court. Fire everyone at the FBI and start over. Ditto with the CIA. They have been corrupted by the left/Democrats. The Republicans better clean house and get rid of the dirty swamp creatures or they will destroy our constitutional republic. This is not a game, the left wants you in irons.
"Some people are already headed to jail."
Charged with tax evasion from years prior to Trump even considering running for office.
JM01: Where do you think the Steele dossier came from?
The dossier was compiled from sources that had been reliable before in uncovering wrongdoing by the Russian government. It is not illegal to compile such a dossier.
JM01: despite the dossier never having been verified
Much of the dossier has been publicly verified, such as in court filings.
OneGuy: We don't 'know' if this is true for the simple reason that the DNC preferred that the event not be investigated by the FBI
In fact, we know with reasonable certainty it was the Russians. Not only has this sort of cyberwarfare standard practice by Russia against open democracies the last several years, but the URL used to phish the chair of Clinton's campaign is publicly known and linked to Russian actors. Meanwhile, the hacker of the DNC had a problem with his VPN, and accidentally revealed his location — right inside Russian intelligence in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
OneGuy: Actually not true at all.
Flynn is going to jail because he lied about his contacts with the Russians.
OneGuy: No one actually lied about it. What actually happened is that some of Trump's people, still unaware that they were being put into a perjury trap, failed to recall exact/precise events that matched the perjury trap setup.
Gee whiz. Flynn didn't forget. He was taped, and he out and out lied about it. He pleaded guilty to the fact.
OneGuy: Yes Russia (someone in Russia) did indeed try to infiltrate the NRA.
They seemed to have had some success. The latest court case indicated that the spy has a lot more to say.
OneGuy: Yes there are and America shpould be outraged by the misuse of government power by those on the left.
Republicans control the Congress, Supreme Court, and the Presidency. The reason why there are so many criminal cases is because there are so many criminals.
OneGuy: Charged with tax evasion from years prior to Trump even considering running for office.
Manafort's crimes have apparently extended into 2018. And he has been in contact with the White House while supposedly cooperating with the investigation.
A lot of innocent people plead guilty to crimes simply because the system is heavily loaded in favor of the government and without an endless source of money they will lose and do the longer jail/prison sentence. It is one of the moral failings of our system and our prosecutors.
Here is my advice to Trump:
After Michael Flynn is sentenced Trump should pardon him AND then appoint him as special prosecutor to investigate the FBI and DOJ for their misuse of their power in an attempt to destroy Trump and his administration. Hire Joe diGenova and Jeanine Pirro to assist him in bringing the criminals from the Obama administration to justice. Now THAT would be justice.
Anon: A lot of innocent people plead guilty to crimes simply because the system is heavily loaded in favor of the government and without an endless source of money they will lose and do the longer jail/prison sentence.
What's a well-connected rich white guy to do? Sad. (Manafort was convicted at trial.)
Anon: After Michael Flynn is sentenced Trump should pardon him AND then appoint him as special prosecutor to investigate the FBI and DOJ for their misuse of their power in an attempt to destroy Trump and his administration.
Flynn has admitted his guilt. A pardon won't change the fact that he lied.
Appointing a special prosecutor is not one of the president's powers.
"Flynn has admitted his guilt. A pardon won't change the fact that he lied."
Actually you are wrong. A pardon changes everything. It is as though the entire legal process, charges and conviction never happened. More importantly since Flynn didn't "lie" but was charged with lying and threatened with his family being imprisoned unless he simply rolled over and plead guilty a pardon would be his exoneration and Mueller's lies and misuse of power.
Think about it! Appoint Flynn as a special prosecutor to investigate the FBI and the DOJ and of course Muellers excesses as well. What could be better than that??? I hope Trump does it. Not only would Flynn ferret out the weasels in our justice system but it would actually be Justice (with a capitol "J") and sweet revenge. I like it...
OneGuy: A pardon changes everything.
The imputation of guilt remains.
OneGuy: It is as though the entire legal process, charges and conviction never happened.
That's not quite correct. Having been pardoned, he can no longer invoke the Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination.
OneGuy: More importantly since Flynn didn't "lie" ...
Of course he lied. They have him on tape discussing sanctions with the Russian ambassador. He was also being paid by the Turkish government as an unregistered foreign agent.
OneGuy: Appoint Flynn as a special prosecutor to investigate the FBI and the DOJ and of course Muellers excesses as well.
That would be an obvious conflict of interest.
What's interesting about all this is that Trump's own personal attorney, his campaign manager, his deputy campaign manager, and one of his campaign's foreign policy advisers have all been found guilty of crimes; and yet people on this forum act as if nothing has happened.
It much like people supporting the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the city of Baghdad was coming apart at the seams, the Defense Secretary saying "Democracy is messy", and today, it's like "George W Bush? Who's that?"
