We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
While conservatives have much reason to be encouraged by the Senate results, the bottom line is that the balance of power has shifted tonight, and now the Democrats decisively control one half of one branch of government, a part of the government with considerable power. Don’t be surprised if they use it as aggressively as they can against Donald Trump.
Sheesh. The human species has shared childcare throughout history, without government meddling,
When I was young, it was common to see supermarket bulletins with 'mother will care for children in her home'. A win-win for both the working mother and the care giving mother. Low cost. Simple (the government doesn't like that). Now 'licensed' childcare costs so much that it outstrips the wages of a working mother in a lower wage job. Hence more government dependency on 'childcare support' . I guess that's the real goal.
Yeah, given the choice of keeping Congress like it was or how it's going to be now, I really think the latter is better. Now Trump can get better appointments and more regulatory constraints through the Senate more expeditiously, and while parrying whatever irritants the House dems come up with, cut big ticket deals with those House dems whose leadership has a lot better control of their back benchers than Ryan ever dreamt of. To get the House dems on board for his big ticket items he will probably have to toss the House dems a few bones, but any liberal stuff gets into the big ticket items will have to be implemented by Trump appointees in the bureaucracy, so he will have control of the final product.
Why won’t liberals admit their homeless policies don’t work? Because then they couldn't just keep spending money foolishly?
After all, if they WORKED, the problem would get fixed, and you can't pass a bill to spend money when there's no problem.
Girl Scouts in lawsuit claim Boy Scouts will ‘marginalize’ them by rebranding: Girls (some of them) want to do the things boys do, but few boys want to do what girls do. Is BUMMER. I have read that Canadian scouts and European scouts are in co-ed troops.
I'll be there's one thing they didn't look at. Age at first birth for the mother.
Right now college graduates live longer than HS grads live longer than dropouts. Assortive mating has been going on for a few generations. College grads marry college grads- HS grads marry HS grads- dropouts marry dropouts, for the most part. First birth is generally under 18 for dropouts, 18-21 for HS grads, 23 and up for college grads. I notice on my own tree in a one surname search that most of my 6th and 7th cousins were born 20-40 years before me. And lots of 3rd and 4th cousins. And when I look at their branches, there's a shorter lifespan. My parents had lousy lifestyles, lived to age 82. When I look at lifespans of family branches where the distant cousins of the same generation (5, 6, 7th, or whatever even not once or more removed) their ancestors mated the same as my direct ancestors- at later ages. And have longer than average longevities for their time.
