We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"The insane crackdown on pain medication"
Most opiod deaths are caused by fentanyl not prescription drugs. Most addictions are caused by the intentional use of opiods for recreation not as a side effect of using them to deal with pain. The talking heads are just wrong on this war on prescribed drugs. Why? It certainly appears to be intentional and not simply out of ignorance of the facts.
Most of the Fentanyl comes from China and is smuggled into this couuntry through Mexico. A border wall would help control that. Could this be why the MSM is pulling a bait and switch on recreational drug use vs prescription? They simply don't want to give any impetus to the conservative desire for a border wall? I honestly can't think of another reason for them to so mischaracterize this issue.
Pointing out facts just shows how uncaring and heartless you are ;-)
'spying because of concern about foreign intervention in our democracy' is not spying"
There was a large amount of foreign money "donated" to the obama campaigns, from credit cards, on up. Did the FBI "spy" on this? why not? Did international news organizations or soros's international "foundations" effect support for hillary and dems?
Moral panics rarely have any sensible rationale behind them.
"You're in serious pain, but because we're worried about your health and the possibility of addiction to fentanyl we're going to severely restrict your controlled, prescribed, standardized doses of painkilling medication."
That seems a lot like limiting antibiotic use so the patient's immune system doesn't become dependent on it.
Bird Dog: Don't they understand that nobody cares about their politics? People who politicize everything are just annoying.

While confined here in the Birmingham city jail, I came across your recent statement calling my present activities "unwise and untimely."
If you're making guacamole, you can call an avocado a plum, a cow, a car, a brick or a friggin' turnip - but you're still using an avocado.
Their contortions to avoid calling what they did 'spying' are patently ridiculous. And if they WERE actually so worried about undue foreign influence that they felt a need to actually embed people in the campaign to look for such things, wouldn't it make more sense to, oh, I don't know... actually WARN the campaign that the Russians were trying to influence the campaign?
More and more this looks like an attempt to justify what they did. I really don't think they expected Hillary to lose, and once she was in office steps would have been taken to 'punish' Trump so severely there'd be no attempt by a DC 'outsider' to ever run again.
But he won - and we're seeing how corrupt the system was that enabled and protected Hillary. Can the embedded corruption be cleansed? Guess we'll see... I wish I were more hopeful, though.
^ That sure was interesting.
At this rate the Clattering Site Robot(s) will be reciting the Hong Kong phone book from 1963 if it means disrupting even four percent of real human people person thinking.
This has been a public service announcement from Meh, Confounder of Site Robot(s).
JLawson: Their contortions to avoid calling what they did 'spying' are patently ridiculous.
Because they mean different things. There is nothing unusual about the law enforcement talking to people to get a general sense of what is going on. Infiltration under false pretenses, however, is intrusive, and there are procedures involved to prevent abuse.
People connected to the Trump campaign had contacts with Russian agents. It's reasonable for the FBI to investigate those contacts. The use of informants is the least intrusive means of investigating the contacts.
JLawson: And if they WERE actually so worried about undue foreign influence that they felt a need to actually embed people in the campaign to look for such things,
There is no evidence they embedded anyone in the campaign.
JLawson: wouldn't it make more sense to, oh, I don't know... actually WARN the campaign that the Russians were trying to influence the campaign?
The FBI did warn Trump and Clinton about Russian attempts to infiltrate the campaigns, in July 2016.
"Woman Claimed Texas Trooper Raped Her"
Think about how easily she made that claim. What kind of person would do that? It is much more common then we believe. It is the perfect crime to make false claims of rape except where there is a camera handy. Make no mistake without that camera this deputy would be fired, disgraced and likely do hard time in jail. How many people have had this false claim made about them? #melietoo

Zach, should clinton go to jail for taking a $150 million bribe to sell 20% of US uranium to the russians?
You claim the FBI procedures prevent abuse. There are laws and rules against "leaking"? Should all FBI employees who leak to their favorite reporters at WP, CNN and NYT go to jail? Large numbers of clinton "people" have russian contacts, including bill andhillary being bribed by russians. Why didn't the FBI, Brennan and Clapper spy on the clinton campaign and all her many "people" who have russian contacts?
If there are procedures to prevent abuse, why didn't the FBI subpoena and investigate the clinton and DNC servers, but stormed into manafort and cohen's homes in the dead of night?
Why did the FBI agree to destroy clinton's server? Why did the FBI agree to greatly limit its investigation of weiner's laptop (to exclude many areas of possible crime) while going after anyone associated with trump for anything they could find?
Why did the FBI pay for the fake trump dossier, have an agent's wife help write it, and hide their behavior from the courts and congress? Where were the abuse procedures you tout?
Did the FBI abuse procedures prevent crooked redaction of subpoenaed FBI records? Why is the cost ($70,000.00) of a table such important "humint" top-secret classified information that revealing it would cause massive loss of life? If revealing the spy on the trump campaign would cause massive loss of life, why did the FBI leak it to the NYT and others? How many thousands of people have been killed because of the FBI leaking Halper's name, and revealing redaction of top-secret conference table prices? (didn't you complain about an $11K furniture price, so this is many times more secret?)
Did the FBI spy on Bernie for his own good? What do you think?
Why did clinton pardon Marc Rich in exchange for $500K, and not Jack Johnson? THe Johnson family didn't have $500K to pay for a pardon?
How did Susan Rice get a net worth of $50 million on a bureaucrat salary? How did Dianne Feinstein and husband become billionaires (government contracts?).
This too. https://twitter.com/VachelLindsay/status/999878016766361600
Quite the Gish gallop. Most of your claims are specious. We'll address a few.
jaybird: should clinton go to jail for taking a $150 million bribe to sell 20% of US uranium to the russians?
Making stuff up is not an argument.
jaybird: You claim the FBI procedures prevent abuse.
Like any human endeavor, the procedures are not foolproof. However, you can't argue that simply because they are imperfect that they failed in this case.
jaybird: There are laws and rules against "leaking"?
Yes and no. Depends on the type of information involved. Classified information, given that it is found by the courts to be "relating to the national defence", would generally be illegal to leak. Even then, leaking may be protected by whistle-blower laws.
jaybird: why didn't the FBI subpoena and investigate the clinton and DNC servers, but stormed into manafort and cohen's homes in the dead of night?
Um, in the former case, the DNC was the victim, and the information the FBI needed was provided by the DNC's security firm. In the latter case, there was probable cause of criminal activities by the subjects of the warrants. In other words, it's the difference between being the victim of a crime and being the probable perpetrator of a crime.
jaybird: How did Susan Rice get a net worth of $50 million on a bureaucrat salary?
She made her money the old-fashioned way. She inherited it.
Your lies aren't even clever.
DrTorch: Nothing you wrote here is true.
Starting at the beginning ... Are you claiming that there is something unusual about law enforcement talking to people to get a general sense of what is going on? Are you saying infiltration under false pretenses is not intrusive?
The examples we provided are all readily available on video.
Considering the DOJ has been publishing cases of bad doctors and bad pharmacies being connected to overprescribing and suspect selling practices, I have to disagree. There are BAD people out there willing to write prescriptions or fill suspect prescriptions. They need to be punished. And if that takes actually SHARING federal data with local authorities, then I'm all for it.
There is not just a fentanyl problem. There is a problem with people getting prescriptions for heavy opioid meds they don't need.
This just ticks me off b/c I have someone in my family who is a drug addict who is now getting oxycodone for 'pain,' which is a JOKE. This person is milking a medical condition for heavy pain meds. And then I see this person TAKE TOO MANY and sit at the table or in a car in a STUPOR. Yet, this person will never admit this is a problem b/c this person's 'doctor prescribed them.'
IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED.
I welcome the NFL's continuing attempts to show their backsides to the world.
It will hasten their demise.
Dear Clinton Foundation,
We are sorry the Zach 1.0 robot malfunctioned recently when it burned out attempting to reconstruct the 1963 Hong Kong telephone book. However, we will not replace it under warranty, because it was only designed for obstruction and diversion, not rationality.
We suggest you upgrade to the new turboZACH 10.0. It is equipped with an automatic Sisan Rice brand "unmasker" for NSA records. It is capable of 10,000 troll postings per hour.
Very truly yours,

Clattering Soros Robot(s): ...and there are procedures involved to prevent abuse.
Real Human: And there it is - so in other words all this went down in spite of "procedures 'involved' to prevent abuse".

Um, in the former case, the DNC was the victim, and the information the FBI needed was provided by the DNC's security firm.
Nice try, kiddiez.
So far there is no verifiable evidence the DNC server was hacked other than the claim by Crowdstrike.
And the FBI was never allowed access to the server in question.
Good luck convincing much less convicting anyone with that bullshit.

Zzzz: Making stuff up is not an argument.
Yet y'all keep doing it, kiddiez.
Zach, you are an amusing distraction, but why don’t you directly address the questions? No one made up the $150 million bribe to the clintons - it is well documented. And the FBI had a mole in the corrupt uranium scheme, which was withheld and the mole silenced to protect the bribe. If anyone other than obama or the clintons was bribed with actual $150 million payment from actual russians, the FBI would be investigating ghe hell aout of it, and you would not be trying to hide it. Do you know what your dissembling does to your credibility?
The $500K clinton bribe for a pardon is well documented, which Mueller himself was involved in, to protect the clintons. You never answered why clinton pardoned Marc Rich in exchange for $500K, but not Jack Johnson? The clintons are pay-to-play, and Johnson family didn't have $500K to pay for a pardon?
It CAN be argued, and is clear, that FBI abuse procedures completely failed in this, and many other cases. The FBI was corrupted from the top, became a tool of the clinton campaign, and is abusing security classification and redaction to protect itself from scrutiny. Lets see what you say after the Inspector General report is published?
Again, why did the FBI pay for the fake trump dossier, secretly have its case-assigned FBI agent's wife help write it, and hide their crooked behavior from the courts and congress? The abuse procedures you tout were repeatedly flaunted multiple times. You can’t credibly deny that the FBI has repeatedly proven it can't be trusted to police itself or enforce any abuse procedures.
You argue the DNC was a "victim" of russian spying on a server, so the FBI should not investigate the server? That is truly nuts. The victim was shot, so we will cremate the body without autopsy or clue search? You can't do any better than that? In fact, the FBI didn't investigate the server, and agreed to destroy the clinton laptop, because they both likely contained lots of "improprieties" and criminal evidence, which as a supporter of the clinton campaign, it would not want to find or have in its possession. The FBI also intentionally limited its investigation of the weiner laptop, to protect against finding other improprieties, perhaps the weiner “insurance file”? Is there is no other reasonable explanation?
Again, did the FBI abuse procedures prevent crooked redaction of subpoenaed FBI records? No !! Why is the cost ($70,000.00) of a table such important "humint" top-secret classified information that revealing it would cause massive loss of life? If revealing their spying on the trump campaign would cause massive loss of life, why did the FBI leak it to the NYT and others? That was surely illegal!!! How many thousands of people have been killed because of the FBI leaking Halper's name, and revealing redaction of top-secret conference table prices? (didn't you complain about an $11K furniture price, so this is many times more secret?)
Again, did the FBI spy or "benignly interrogate" on Bernie for his own good? What do you think? I think "yes", and the info was used against bernie.
Your so-called reputation is on the line here if you hope to have any credibility to persuade anyone. Don’t equivocate or dissemble, of say “look over there, a squirrel!!” If you get paid by the line, perhaps it doesn’t matter?
Another Gish Gallop according to the kiddiez.
Clattering Soros Robot(s): GOOGLE IT HUMAN PERSON UNIT INDIVIDUAL [BZZZZZT FRITZ]
If the causes behind the protests are so critical, why not continue them during the off season? Liberalism is truly a cancer. Once infested with it, you can lose all rationality.
jaybird: why don’t you directly address the questions?
We did directly address several of the questions, but you stuffed so many half-truths and myths into a single post that responding to all of them wasn't practical. And none of it has anything to do with the fanciful "Spygate". You are diverting.
jaybird: No one made up the $150 million bribe to the clintons - it is well documented.
That Russians use bribery isn't news. The entire regime is a kleptocracy, but there is no evidence that Clinton pocketed a $150 million Russian bribe.
jaybird: You argue the DNC was a "victim" of russian spying on a server, so the FBI should not investigate the server?
We didn't say that the FBI shouldn't investigate, but that they shouldn't further punish the victim. What happened is what usually happens. The victim realizes they were hacked. They rush to fix the problem. They then let the FBI know they've been hacked, and IT provides the FBI the evidence they need, which they did. While there is certainly the possibility of abuse in law enforcement, making stuff up doesn't constitute a valid argument.
There is no reasonable doubt about Russian attempts to interfere in the U.S. election. They are engaged in a widespread campaign to undermine open democracies, and the DNC hack was just one of many actions towards that end. You are an important tool of the Russian attacks, as is Trump.
You think this person would tell me who their doctor is writing the prescriptions? No way in hell am I getting that info. And this person would probably just go to a new doc.
Another big problem this same person was arrested for trying to get a tampered prescription filled. Shouldn't there be some kind of system in place that flags these kinds of people? They exist.
I, for one, am glad for the crackdown. Sorry, I have seen what it does when someone is addicted. It ruins their family, all their relationships. It's horrible.
I call BS Zach. You are dissembling again. You forfeited your chance at credibility. The Clintons got $150 MILLION from the russians as a bribe to clear the uranium sale to russia. FBI => ZZZZZZ, snore.
Clintons got $500K to pardon Marc Rich, Mueller approves...
FBI is proven crooked and unable to police itself. The Zach answer (with fingers in ears) La La La La.....
Zach says "too many difficult questions to answer", so "there's a squirrel, look over there !!!"
what a maroon.
You rely on distortion and half truths such as intelligence information coming through 17 intelligence agencies when no such thing occurred, it all came in through side channels of Hillary, the DNC, private intelligence companies and individuals and then intentionally leaked to the press. Pedal your BS elsewhere.
I'm a Zach 1.0 robot jointly owned by the FBI, DNC and clinton foundation. They refuse to upgrade me to the turboZACH 10 model, so I can't answer real questions without making stuff up. So I have asked Alexa for help answering hard questions from meanies and poopey heads. But Alexa says my computer unit is too feeble for communication at my 300 baud speed limit. So, can you help be answer hard questions I don't understand?
Why do the clintons take $150 million bribes? Why are the FBI and CIA lying to congress doing political spying? Why doesn't everyone love hillary, which is programmed into me?
Clattering Site Robot Zach
PS. put the answers on the chinese-made thumb drive like we did with the DNC computer, hillary's bathroom server and mr. weiner's laptop.
Don't miss the point!! Those cases that you cite are people who are already addicted. The argument in play here is that prescription opiods are causing addiction when taken as prescribed. In general it simply isn't true or even close to true. With prescription opiods you have to go to great lengths to either get addicted or to satisfy an addiction.
The second point is that ALL opiods are being blamed for the 60,000 yearly deaths. But typically it is the fentanyl that kills OR in some cases it is heroin that is stronger than the addict is used to taking.
The experts and doctors know this. But yet allow the debate to stray into legitimate prescription drugs used as prescribed. THAT is the problem.
Spygate is really starting to unfold for the American public despite the irrational and illogical spin of the liberal media and the kiddiez.
Trump's going to beat them all again because he's the only one who's been honest throughout the entire ordeal.
When my mother was dying in a nursing home while in extreme pain the nurses wouldn't give her enough pain medication to allow her some time free of pain saying "we don't want her to become addicted. What an absolutely ridiculous statement. We did, however, discover that nursing home really are not very good at dealing with death of the aged. Hopefully that has changed over time.
Repeating your claims without support is not an argument.
jaybird: The Clintons got $150 MILLION from the russians as a bribe to clear the uranium sale to russia.
Please provide evidence that the Clintons pocketed $150 million from the Russians.
indyjonesouthere: You rely on distortion and half truths such as intelligence information coming through 17 intelligence agencies when no such thing occurred
Presumably you are referring to the Russian hack of the DNC. Not only does the U.S. and foreign intelligence communities say that Russian was almost certainly the source of the hack, but numerous cybersecurity experts have also traced the hack to Russia having been monitoring them well before the hack. Russia also hacked Podesta's emails (we have the exact URL used for the spoof). And there is now direct evidence that Guccifer 2.0 is working out of Russia.
Russia is engaging in a widespread campaign to undermine open democracies, including in Ukraine and western Europe, so there is a pattern of behavior. You are a crucial tool of that effort.
You presume far to much. It is the insanity of Russia, Russia, Russia and Trump. The Russian ties are with the Obama administration, the DNC, Hillary, and the private contractors. They are the colluders and they are being cornered slowly and methodically.
indyjonesouthere: You presume far to much.
We tried to read your comment generously. In response, you ignored our comment.
indyjonesouthere: It is the insanity of Russia, Russia, Russia and Trump.
Our position is evidence based. Do you disagree with this statement: Russia is engaging in a widespread campaign to undermine open democracies, including in Europe and the U.S., so there is a pattern of behavior.
There is not a connection to Trump and that is what the democrats say with the collusion charge. That was made up to keep Trump from uncovering Obama and Hillary illegalities. Hillary said it herself in an email that they would be facing "nooses" if Trump won. How many countries did Obama spy on and how many Congressman did Obama spy on? We already know he interfered in Israel and Kenya. What is the difference between the Obama administration and the Putin administration? They spy and interfere in the politics of other countries and then feign innocents. One other thing that unless you are an American you may not know...we are a republic, not an open democracy.
Zzzz: Not only does the U.S. and foreign intelligence communities say that Russian was almost certainly the source of the hack,...
iRepeating your claims without proof is not an argument.[/i]
Except there was no forensic proof.
Former NSA experts say it wasn’t a hack at all, but a leak—an inside job by someone with access to the DNC’s system.
indyjonesouthere: There is not a connection to Trump and that is what the democrats say with the collusion charge.
There is evidence that the Russians were interfering in the U.S. presidential election, to sow confusion, to help Trump, and to hurt Clinton. There is evidence that the Russians were attempting to infiltrate the Trump campaign, and that people within the campaign were willing to entertain Russian help. Furthermore, Trump specifically encouraged the Russians to leak email obtained illegally.
It's also important to note that this behavior by Russia is part of a widespread attack against open democracies around the world, so it's reasonable that this is something that should be investigated.
indyjonesouthere: Hillary said it herself in an email that they would be facing "nooses" if Trump won.
As fake news isn't beholden to fact, it tends to morph over time.
indyjonesouthere: One other thing that unless you are an American you may not know...we are a republic, not an open democracy.
Actually, the United States is a federal democratic republic. It's a federal system, with power distributed between the states and the central government. It's a republic because the government is constituted of representatives, including a president who is both head of state and head of government. And it's a democracy, because suffrage is universal.
Do you disagree with this statement? Russia is engaging in a widespread campaign to undermine open democracies, including in Europe and the U.S., so there is a pattern of behavior.
Repeating your misleading half-truths without proof is not an argument.
It's nothing but DNC talking points, kiddiez.
How does losing feel?
Lets see...You dodged Israel and Kenya interference by Obama. Do you deny Obama and Hillary interfered in foreign politics and in foreign hacking just like Russia? Did Obama interfere in Ukraine? In Libya? Do you agree that the Obama administration and Hillary interfered in the democratic and republican campaigns through private contractors and private intelligence agencies?
indyjonesouthere: You dodged Israel and Kenya interference by Obama. Do you deny Obama and Hillary interfered in foreign politics and in foreign hacking just like Russia? Did Obama interfere in Ukraine? In Libya?
We didn't dodge. We ignored them as irrelevant as to whether or not the Russians did, in fact, infiltrate the Trump campaign, or whether Trump campaign officials worked with foreign powers in violation of campaign law.
