We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Russia-gate has become so central to the Washington establishment’s storyline that there appears to be no room for second-thoughts or turning back. The momentum is such that some Democrats and the media never-Trumpers can’t stop stoking the smoke of Russia-gate and holding out hope against hope that it will somehow justify Trump’s impeachment.
Yet, the sordid process of using legal/investigative means to settle political scores further compromises the principle of the “rule of law” and integrity of journalism in the eyes of many Americans. After a year of Russia-gate, the “rule of law” and “pursuit of truth” appear to have been reduced to high-falutin’ phrases for political score-setttling, a process besmirched by Republicans in earlier pursuits of Democrats and now appearing to be a bipartisan method for punishing political rivals regardless of the lack of evidence.
Progressivism is a religion. Dissent is heresy and cannot be allowed to be spoken. Post-modernism is their catechism, and their god is themselves.

San Francisco changes Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day
If it weren't for Columbus raising European awareness of the New World, that set of vicious, war-mongering, violent, cannibalistic, human-sacrificing, scalping, slave-taking tribes, now known as "Indigenous peoples," would have killed each other off to the point of near-extinction!
Those wonderful, "innocent" indigenous types didn't unknowingly surrender their lands for trunks full of beads, but rather, sought treaties with the European settlers, exchanging lands for an alliance to help protect one tribe from the ravages of warring neiighborng tribes!
Without European intervention....NO Natives would likely have survived.
(And, NO!...there were no attempts at "germ warfare" against tth Natives---no one even understood the pathological agency of disease back then. Disease wiped many peoples as an incident of early trade contacts---tiny merchant ships with a bilges full of mosquito larvae or other disease vectors---well before Europeans began their diaspora to the New World!)
Part of me wishes all the universities would close down until the professors and students get a grip. Not many would last long in the "real world" where good manners and civil debate are necessary to leading a profitable enterprise.
