We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I am reminded of what Obama said nearly 10 years ago about the "bitter clingers."
While I no longer reside in a rural area, I grew up in one. Half my cousins live in rural areas. A such, I am an urban resident who is not pleased by what she said.
My comment under Friday Morning Links, which happened to be the first, applies here. That minority is not a threat to democracy, it is a threat to her tribe's power, which she equates with democracy. She is correctly perceiving a threat, but incorrectly identifying it.

Tut Tut... no need for such extreme measures, it would be far more mercifully quick to simply close the taps and shut in the hydrocarbon pipelines. This has the added benefit of keeping them where they already are. Just kidding, of course.
