We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"Not paying attention"?
They can't kill themselves off fast enough for me.
The Church of England has absolutely no idea why their numbers are dwindling rapidly. Come to think of it, the ones in the US don't seem to catch on either. The more liberal they become the lesser Christian they become.
'TSA 80% failure rate'
our TSA is a jobs program for the semi challenged .
Is it supposed to be hard for retirees to find meaningful volunteer work? I find more than I can possibly do; I constantly have to cull whatever seems least "meaningful."
I'll never understand the trouble so many people have finding things to do with their time, before or after they retire. I don't even have kids to use up spare mental or emotional resources.
My newest thing: I'm going to run for County Commissioner. It's time I got involved in local government instead of just complaining about it.
The sex worker article was interesting. What she says makes huge sense, but I think she's leaving out an important part: the desire to have a romp in the sheets with a woman who seems to want it badly, and offers a little ordinary companionship and conversation to boot, then completely withdraws all messy needs and demands until he books her time again.
Any guy who's half trying can have a long-term relationship with a woman who wants it badly and will show her appreciation--but he'll have to deal with being a trustworthy part of her life, too, which is nearly a full-time job and not worth it to everyone. If you go this route, though, you'll have a woman who isn't faking it for money, if that's important.
with a woman who wants it badly and will show her appreciation
You've made an astute observation, Texan99. The problem is the phrase above is incompatible with the fishes and bicycles philosophy that is preached by modern feminism. A woman is not supposed to appreciate anything a man does for her.
It's certainly accurate that not having to deal with needs and demands is part of the appeal of prostitution. The flip side of that is women often seem to take "you can't have my best until you deal with my worst" a bit too seriously, especially when the best:worst ratio is decidedly lopsided.

"Air Force Academy: A Perfect Hoax For The Age Of Trump."
This is a bigger story than it is credited for. It goes past race into all of the victim theologies. This has been going on since Eve sexually harassed Adam. It is probable that many of our known biases and memorable examples of these kinds of things in history were hoaxes or results of hoaxes/exaggerations like this. I had a front seat to a well known race discrimination hoax and knowing the hoaxer was quite amazed at how easily she threw her coworkers under the bus for a little attention.
I do disagree with the last statement: "Gen. Silveria chose not to be cautious." In his position he had no other choice. But just as importantly his remarks were correct with or without the incident that prompted them.
What needs to be fixed in these cases is the punishment for the hoaxer. Usually there is no punishment and no followup notoriety. I believe that at the least in cases of false accusations that the perp face the same punishment that a person who was actually guilty of the accusation would face.
You Have to Hand It to Hillary – the Girl Can Smear
The Trump-Russia dossier wasn't published until after the election.
Right. If either your hands or your brain still function above idiot level, you can find a zillion enjoyable and productive things to do that will fill your days, and as much of your nights as you can stay awake for.

It was bought and paid for, months before the election.
Is there any leftist drivel you people won't cover for? Go ahead, try thinking for yourself sometime. It won't hurt. Question the company line. You'll feel much better. In time you might become independent, self sufficient. All grown up.

You Have to Hand It to Hillary – the Girl Can Smear Swear
It's almost as if the MSM hasn't been paying attention. Did NONE of them listen to Trump's speech back in May when he was in the Middle East? This is exactly what he supported.
Don't fall for this criticism and fear campaign. It's about the money train that was just cut off by Saudi Arabia to politicians and lobbyists in the U.S. when their corruption sweep began.
Both sides of the aisle have been benefiting from rich princes who pour money into things...most of it through sideways means to get around campaign finances laws. I'm GLAD Saudi Arabia purged the corrupt people in their government who were giving support not only to our politicians and influencing them but to TERRORISTS. Bring it on.
I'm not afraid. Let the moderates in the Middle East be in charge of reining in the bad ones. They know best how to do it. We need to step away.
Was presented to FBI in July 2016. Was spread around the press in September 2016. Clinton actually did refer to some of the allegations before the election.
Biggest problem with your argument? The dossier was used by the FBI and the Obama Administration to get FISA warrants to spy on Trump campaign. That is truth. That cannot be denied. Senator Grassley already trying to track down the specific details, but this is what happened. It is in open reporting well before the Special Prosecutor came on board.
Let's not forget that not only was Fusion GPS tied to the dossier, they were tied to Veselnitskaya. She met with Fusion GPS right before going to Don Jr. meeting and afterwards and even brought with her a memo drafted by Fusion. 11 days after Veselnitskaya meeting Christopher Steele crafted his first memo for the dossier about very similar circumstances that read like the Don Jr. meeting.
If you can't see this was a spy operation created by Fusion GPS, which was paid for by HRC/DNC and even Obama, you are just ignorant.
Not to mention the fake "hacking" of the DNC servers by the Russkies.
Miss T: Was spread around the press in September 2016.
The first oblique reference in the media was on October 31, by Mother Jones; however, the media refrained from publishing the dossier because they couldn't independently verify its contents. The dossier wasn't published until after the election, and many media sources have yet to publish the dossier.
Miss T: The dossier was used by the FBI and the Obama Administration to get FISA warrants to spy on Trump campaign.
Sources say the Trump-Russia dossier indicated there were links between Carter Page and Russia. The same sources note that the FBI couldn't have used the dossier alone, but would have had to have independent corroboration. In fact, we now know that Carter Page did make contact with the Russians during the campaign, and that Page and made misleading statements concerning those contacts.
However, Carter Page is NOT taking the 5th and testifying to all questions openly put to him by the committee unlike those involved in the unlawful and unethical shenanigans of the Obama administration and Hillary's campaign.
Not true. NY Post article specifically says it was being shopped around in September 2016:
You are also missing the fact that Page was not the only one targeted. Here you go:
But it was given to Obama's three blind mice; Brennan, Clapper and Comey and they fed bits and pieces of it into the MSM and their organizations in an attempt to destroy Trump. And after his election the attempt became more of an effort to undermine our democracy to reverse his election. This act by Obama and Hillary may be the biggest act of sedition since 1861.
Traveling, I have to say the TSA is the worst security I have come across by far, and really gives our country a black eye in terms of how travelers view our country. The last time I went through U.S. international security a couple of weeks ago I got yelled at for not knowing to take my cellphone out of my pocket and put it on the conveyor belt and I was stupid for not knowing that. I could have just pointed at the posted sign not 20 feet from him that expressly said that all electronics LARGER than a cellphone* had to be put in bins on the conveyor belt (which I thought meant you didn't have to take your cellphone out), but I knew that would just exacerbate the situation so I bit my tongue and apologized. In any event just because of that, even being respectful, I, my cellphone and everything I had got minutely searched and examined and I then got put on some watch list because for the rest of that trip I got taken out of line and searched every time going through security in Japan and Taiwan-- all because of some alert TSA put on me because of my cellphone. The TSA guy did that just to be an asshole. I'm sure they could have just pressed a button and would know who I am and that I have never been a security problem.
TSA is also totally arbitrary. You never know from one day to the next whether or not you have to take off your shoes and/or belt and/or watch, whether they want your 3-1-1 items put on top of your bag or not, etc. etc. etc. I can see that change-up if they want to trip the bad guys up, but they certainly should be understanding if some travelers don't realize they have changed what you have to do from the last time you went through.
Even the security in the People's Republic of China is better. They are very thorough and serious, but are respectful and polite.
ECUSA and much of the Anglican Church of Canada may be heading towards heresy along with the Scottish Episcopal Church and far to many leaders of the Church of England, but there are resistors. Said resistance is allied with GAFCON - check it out. In the USA, the American Anglican Council is the umbrella group for those congregations and dioceses who have broken away from ECUSA. In Canada, it's Anglican Church in North America - also involved in the AAC.
There is talk by the ACC of sending missionary bishops to England to shepherd the parishes who are rebelling against the heresies promoted by Lambeth.
No better in Canada; I am routinely selected for extra scrutiny - they must have something against Canadian grannies. On a recent trip with a daughter, we were BOTH given the "patdown or xray" option. Of course, we were given the "it's random" comment; not reassuring - if they're double-checking me, I would like to think they have reason.
By contrast, going through security in Europe (Amsterdam) was very simple coming and going.
I have the opposite problem - I CAN'T RETIRE. Have my own small business, and all clients are unanimous: I can retire except for looking after that particular client. However, it keeps the mind active.
Husband is officially retired. However, three offsprings have job jars which only Dad can empty (and forget my jar). Also, involved in one offspring's clinic as IT and general maintenance person. Also very involved with neighbours and will help there at the drop of a hat (did I mention I have a VERY FULL job jar?).
However, when I look back over the years, I think of the many people I knew who were volunteers. When we joined our first parish church here, I was struck by how many organizations were supported by church members. In those days, it was usually the women who were out doing the volunteer work in the communities, as their husbands were "working". But I remember particularly a cousin and her husband who, for many years in his retirement, volunteered for the CNIB. And a current parish is reeling after the sudden resignation of the senior who did just about everything (nasty cancer diagnosis), which is really interesting.
MissT: Not true.
What's not true?
MissT: NY Post article specifically says it was being shopped around in September 2016
It was, and the media declined to publish the dossier as they couldn't independently substantiate its claims.
MissT: You are also missing the fact that Page was not the only one targeted.
You apparently didn't read the article, which doesn't actually make such a claim, but merely raises the question. If the dossier was provided to the FISC, the FBI would have to have had other corroborating evidence. And again, the claim that Carter Page had contacts with the Russians during the campaign turned out to be true. Meanwhile, the Trump Administration has made multiple misleading statements about Russian contacts.
GoneWithTheWind: But it was given to Obama's three blind mice; Brennan, Clapper and Comey
Most of the media wouldn't publish the dossier without independent corroboration, and none published the dossier until after the election. However, they clearly tried to corroborate the claims in the dossier, and some of those claims have been substantiated, mostly after the election.
