We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Why September 11th?
A good Moslem king was one who was strict in religion, valiant in battle, just in giving judgment among his people, but not one who had the slightest objection in international matters to removing his neighbour’s landmark.
–G.K. Chesterton, 1911
How many of the 30 deadliest hurricanes in recorded history can be blamed on global warmening, er, I mean climate change?
The 30 Deadliest US Hurricanes / Tropical Cyclones (1851 - 2006)
Happy 16th Anniversary of the world's largest controlled demolition!
Any doubts? Follow the money! (who got paid insurance money twice for 9-11 and ended up with the redevelopable WTC property?) Ask any European civil engineer who watches the Twin Towers fall. Verdict = controlled demolition!
Ask yourself, you've seen the results, where were all the bodies and tons of office equipment in those collapsed buildings? Pulvarized in the demolition explosions.
Ask yourself about the statements of those heroes the police and fire first responders, almost all of whom reported multiple successive explosions that occurred after they appeared.. Are those heroes lying?
And follow the propagandizing politicians/fools who led the US into 16 years of unnecessary wars at a cost of over a $2 trillion (there's that darned money again) and 10,000 dead Americans.
Won't even mention the millions of "little brown people" who died for these Bush-Cheney-Silverstein sins!
I should probably just ignore you... but here goes.
Were the demolition charges planted AFTER the planes hit the building, or were the charges there, planted ahead of time by someone who approved of the planes?
I think it's great that the group home lets you have internet access, Codger.
I will note that the article and comments in The Nation about climate change and hurricanes repeatedly declare with entire assurance that they have the science, but do not produce any examples of same. The discussion is about politics and blame instead. This is of course very typical, and the effect of it is to reinforce a social impression of truth, not a scientific one.
Multiply this episode by 10,000, and we reach a situation in which people become unable to question such things, as it would result in cutting themselves off from friends, jobs, mates, and status. The bits of information supporting the idea need not be very great at that point - and frankly, even crazy ideas usually have some ambiguous evidence that could be put forth in their favor, so there's always something to clutch. And of course, the climate-hurricane theory could turn out to be true, or partly true. There just isn't any evidence for it yet, beyond our feeling of numb fear at the size of the recent hurricanes. Leaping to conclusions is a fairly normal human response. It's not right, but it's normal.
But just to get people to back off just a bit on the theory, why, if it is true, did it not manifest in the last decade, when we have had fewer and less-strong hurricanes than average? That seems odd. Why now? And why in a period when temperatures have not been especially elevated, and in some ways, not elevated at all?
Is the Constitution next? News flash: The leftists judges presiding in courts, have been working to undermine the Constitution for over 100 years now. It hasn't been a government for the people, by the people, for who knows how long. I thought, however naively, that Trump might drain the swamp. Seems like they have pumped him into the bilge.
I hope that the interim school superintendent at Cumberland actually said "In view of..." not "In lieu of..." and was misunderstood or misquoted. But I would not put any money on the table that this was the case.
Why don't we admit that the horrific damage and cost of natural disasters is increasing populations (massive increases, in some cases), lack of building codes, "free" insurance for those who build in and inhabit these areas, and lure of a carefree lifestyle. You don't see the Upper Peninsula of Michigan or the far reaches of Utah in the headlines for similar problems.
Florida has always been an accident-waiting to happen since Flagler built his railroad. New Orleans? Houston? The Outer Banks? Lack of water management, no respect for Mother Nature, and rapid economic expansion into iffy areas?
Climate change? It's way, way down on the list.
There's always at least one sick fucking asshole that pops out of the shit on 9/11.
You da' man today.
Hammer, don't worry, as soon as Attorney General Sessions wakes up from his nap, he will start to investigate political corruption, bribery, foreign "donations" to the Clinton crime family foundation, how congresscritters get wealthy on their relatively small salaries, vote rigging and vote fraud, political use of the IRS, "fixing" of FBI investigations, etc.
Not to worry, Sessions will drain the swamp right after he wakes up.
Jablonski, maybe the Codger lives with the Zachbot? I thought Zach would be on the global warming thing, like a squirrel attacking the last peanut on earth. I didn't think zach could resist telling us how necessary it is for the Feds to ask 4-year olds about "gender identity". But, mirabile dictu, ze has not appeared.
Maybe zach was so "triggered" and emotionally shocked that ze is attending therapy sessions at Cumberland because of the mere mention of the word "Lafayette"?
"Biographers say Lafayette, a Frenchman who was a major general in the Continental Army, was an abolitionist who purchased slaves with the intent of freeing them. "
See that This. Is CNN. has shut down their crack Russia, Russia, Russia investigative reporting unit.
If anyone would like to watch a good documentary on 9/11, this is one of the best:
Best response I heard was an interview with the head of Controlled Demolitions Inc. - the outfit that does the Las Vegas Casinos (quoting from memory here): "There are maybe three guys in the world who would even attempt that job, and I know where the other two were that morning."
The idea that you could prepare a building for a controlled demo without the occupants noticing was just ludicrous to him.
More importantly, it was all apparently organized by an organization that can't even keep the trains running on time.
The next iteration of the English civil war, the first bringing the king to heel and our Revolution Parliament or the legislative, will have to bring the judicial under control. Not sure what they might look like, but it will have to happen sooner or later.
The study of Anglo-American constitutional law is that of the liberties of the people. Neither a body of dry technicalities, as the demagogue is prone to consider it, nor an instrument new created in the year 1787 and now but an inconvenient impediment to the national destiny, our own Constitution registers the totality of those principles which, in eight hundred and forty years of struggle, the Saxon peoples have won back again from Norman kings, the common law from Roman conceptions of a Sovereign State; each rising wave of freedom leaving its record in some historic document, then perhaps to recede again until the next flood left a higher record still. And if to the Mother Country is due the invention of the Constitution as a bulwark of the people against the Executive, to our forefathers belongs the glory of protecting the people against the Legislative as well; and against the usurpations of any Government or law, even of their own making, on that irreducible minimum which time has shown to be necessary to the English-American people for freedom as they understand it. Give them less than this and they will fight.
--THE CONSTITUTION AND THE PEOPLE'S LIBERTIES, F. J. STIMSON. (1907)
Sadly, it will also mean figuring out how to bring those "other" people to heel. The ones who insist surrendering liberty to satisfy their pietistic need to worship government and use it to force their version salvation upon all in society.
This one's even scarier in a way, because it's a bunch of recorded messages from various agencies (military, FAA, control towers) as the event unfolded:
Here's another good one. While the above link focuses on the agencies and what they said at the time, this one focuses on the actual people involved, like the prez, vice-prez, secretary of state, White House chief of staff, Mayor Giuliani of New York, etc.
Here's a film about it that you'll never see again. Can't buy it or rent it.

The Clinton's made sure of that. Gee, I wonder why.
The Savages in Seattle stole the plaque for this bit of Tocqueville a few years ago:

"Equality - Prosperity vs. Wretchedness":
It's OK, history hasn't been completely erased -- here's the text of the plaque again so it can be replaced:
"Providence has not created mankind entirely independent or entirely free. It is true that around every man a fatal circle is traced beyond which he cannot pass; but within the wide verge of that circle he is powerful and free; as it is with man, so with communities. The nations of our time cannot prevent the conditions of men from becoming equal, but it depends upon themselves whether the principle of equality is to lead them to servitude or freedom, to knowledge or barbarism, to prosperity or wretchedness."
-- Alexis de Tocqueville, "Democracy in America"
