We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

It doesn't bother me a lot that the left/Democrats have this double standard and practice dirty politics. After all a scorpion is a scorpion so what would you expect. What does bother me is that the right/Republicans generally act helpless and gutless in the face of this treatment and neither defend nor counter attack. But even worse is that the republicans seem to have a large number of traitors that we choose to call Rinos rather than turncoats or saboteurs or something more descriptive of their actions against fellow Republicans and Republican ideals. I cite Jeb Bush as an example of this in his recent diatribe against Trump. Does it strike anyone else as odd that the Bush's can remain quiet and even apologetic during Obama's eight years of a disastrous presidency but feel compelled to undermine a Republican president?
I don't think Jeb and W speak with the same voice. Jeb was still angling for a nomination (and maybe still is). W has ideas about what an ex-president should act like.
As for the Democrats. Their tribe is their tribe. Nothing else matters.
Trump has had his share of snapper also,he was just goofy enough to marry 'em.
Dems and Pubs r both tribes that just try to destroy each other.Trying to work together for either,,is not in their playbooks.
I will just say I am sick to death of the left and their two faced filth.
One of the reasons I voted against Hillary was that I didn't want a known sexual predator back in the White House. While Bill and Hillary have not lived together since Bill left the presidency, I doubt he would have passed up the chance to move back into the White House and again have an expanded base for his predatory activities.
Why don't you consider Beyoncé, one of the hardest working people in the entertainment industry, someone who combines discipline, imagination, and social consciousness, to be a role model?
My daddy Alabama, momma Louisiana
You mix that negro with that Creole, make a Texas bama
I like my baby heir with baby hair and afros
I like my negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils
Earned all this money, but they never take the country out me
I got hot sauce in my bag, swag
Well, if you wanted your daughter to become a street walker she would make a good role model.
Huh? Beyoncé and Jay-Z make marriage glam. Her magnum opus, Lemonade, is all about monogamy.
It was very much in George Bush's 2001 playbook: Medicare D, Teddy Kennedy's No Child Left Behind, relaxing the lending rules for minority homebuyers. How did working together work out?
Many people who are poor role models in some ways do good things in others. Very few people are terrible in every way. But for those who think that oversexualization is a bad example for young women (or men), Beyoncé has some pretty clear evidence against her. If Michelle Obama is referring to the entertainer's work ethic and monogamy, then I would expect she would have had kinder things to say about the Romneys, the McCains, and the Bushes.
But she didn't, did she? As near as I can guess from the evidence, Michelle admires...but no, that would be guessing. People might want to check out who else Michelle has admired, and who she has deplored, however.
Beyoncé is just one example of trashy American culture being promoted by Hollywood and the liberal Left.
Assistant Village Idiot: But for those who think that oversexualization is a bad example for young women (or men), Beyoncé has some pretty clear evidence against her.
Beyoncé is married, a devoted mother, she works hard. For shame!
Sure. Some conservatives think women should be covered, or that they should pretend that sex isn't something that happens. But that isn't the modern world. What you call oversexualization is just modern culture to the kids. Maybe if you yell at them, they'll stay off your lawn.
"Lemonade draws from the prolific literary, musical, cinematic, and aesthetic sensibilities of black cultural producers to create a rich tapestry of poetic innovation. The audacity of its reach and fierceness of its vision challenges our cultural imagination, while crafting a stunning and sublime masterpiece about the lives of women of color and the bonds of friendship seldom seen or heard in American popular culture."

I don't recall you being authorized to speak for the modern culture of children. I actually know a fair number of modern children who find Beyoncé trashy. You may be projecting your own values onto them. Even if not, your statement is too broad to be accurate.
Secondly, children are not the final arbiters of what is appropriate for them. They are - how shall I put this - young and inexperienced. Amazing, I know, but stop and think about it. They try to slip the leash on a great many things that parents and other adults limit or forbid. I believe it is how all societies work.
I suppose we could give them all the candy they like because they think it's nutrition, or not do any chores because they are unpleasant, but I suspect there would be consequences from that.
Assistant Village Idiot: I don't recall you being authorized to speak for the modern culture of children.
It's called an observation.
Assistant Village Idiot: I actually know a fair number of modern children who find Beyoncé trashy.
Sure. But because of their delicacy, they miss out on the artistic statement; sort of like rejecting Romeo and Juliet because it involves an underage relationship contrary to their parents' wishes. Keep in mind that the original point raised was that Beyoncé represents herself as a streetwalker, which is very much a mischaracterization. It reveals an ignorance of the culture informed by stereotypes.
Assistant Village Idiot: Secondly, children are not the final arbiters of what is appropriate for them.
Some parents may find Beyoncé inappropriate for minor children (art that is of merit often challenges mores), though children who are young adults are the arbiter of their own tastes. Yet Beyoncé celebrates martial sex, while much of the culture implies that marriage and sex are incompatible over the long run. Who has the real family values?
Assistant Village Idiot: I suppose we could give them all the candy they like because they think it's nutrition
Not the best example, of course, because Beyoncé is artistically substantial, and not the empty calories of other musicians who may better conform to your conservative tastes.
