We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Chelsea Clinton Gives Advice on How Millennial Women Can Be as Successful as Her
At this point, anti-Trump Russia hysteria smells like Ben Rhodes-style echo chamber - Media reporting on what other media are saying creates endless cycle of news stories about news stories:

Why French Fries Are More of a "Superfood" Than Kale
A premise found nowhere in the 'bombshell' piece itself.
It's amusing watching rightist food faddists use the topmost gloss of some exceedingly dumb PR from a political site to lifestyle signal. It's become a thing, probably because of the proven Satanic tendencies of Marxist vegans or some other dumb social cartoon. Who said the pop-right didn't know how to be effective out there.
Next up: A lengthy, windy, opinion on how everything on earth is genetic but genes are never impacted by anything on earth, which tends to make this dumb notion as circular as it is self-defeating.
Faddists may want to realize that deep frying at high temperature in a couple percent benzene probably isn't a good idea, right?
the methodology is the same, a fact-free narrative endlessly parroted by the media in a circular fashion so that media reporting on what other media are saying creates an endless cycle of news stories about news stories.
Exactly. This is exactly what's been going on, filling pages everywhere. This is late nite talk show 'journalism', a self-referential yellow bias where you replace fact with appearance.
The postmodern American media has reduced itself to framing and gossip. They're actually 'reporting' on the opinions of their own narrow tier of 'narrative', code for unmitigated BS.
Chelsea Clinton is to American politics what Pia Zadora is to American theater!
"Chelsea Clinton Gives Advice on How Millennial Women Can Be as Successful as Her"
"It's easy! Get your Dad to become the President of the United States! But don't just take my word for it; ask Malia and Sasha!"
I still can't figure out whether Trump's Twitter activity is a deliberate, carefully-controlled media operation or just "Donald being Donald"; I suspect the latter i.e., the best defence is a good offence.
Whatever it is, it's very effective. With one quick tweet to the world, the Donald transforms a raging Prove-you're-not-in-bed-with-the-Russians rumour campaign into a How-do-we-prove-Obama-wasn't wiretapping-Trump defensive withdrawal.
"Gender 'Educator:' It is 'Repulsive' and 'Hurtful' and 'Damaging' To Ask a Person What Sex Xer Child Is"
That educator is quite right!
It's supremely callous to cause any distress to the mentally ill.
The media worries more about whether Trump’s tweets about “wiretapping” were accurate than whether the powers of our spy agencies were abused for political purposes, and whether the Obama administration deliberately tried to undermine the incoming president.
This is why when people have told me that they are worried about the Russians influencing our election by hacking and releasing Clinton's e-mails I respond "I'm a lot more worried about our government being influenced by the people who wrote those e-mails than by the people who released them."
The Palestinian Problem: Perhaps the surrounding Arab states should tell the Palis "You're on your own; we're done with you", instead of supporting them.
Do not believe for a second that anything on Donald's Twitter is extemporaneous. While Donald is Donald, his messages are cleverly sly and crafted to thwart, confuse and enrage; perhaps to inform. The message may tend to be juvenile but you are trying to reach the lowest common denominator.
Zach, if you are out there, and I know you are: BITE ME! you tiny little prack.
I followed the link from the gender educator story to this youtube clip from Portlandia. I had never watched the show but might start now because the clip was hilarious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9r2o5ZnSHo
HEY! Don't pick on Pia. Madonna beat her out for worst actress of the century, so she's not THAT bad.
Plus, her minor role in "Hairspray" was rather humorous. A nice little bit with Ric Ocasek of The Cars....
And who doesn't love "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians"? I mean, what's not to love?
I've watched a number of episodes.
While it's not for everybody, at least they are wiling to make fun of themselves. They don't just mock the right wing - they mock EVERY fringe group.
They also mock the left mocking the right. So they've got their bases pretty well covered.
As far as I'm concerned, they've never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity for peace.
Arafat really, really screwed their mindset big-time.
"Perhaps the surrounding Arab states should tell the Palis 'You're on your own; we're done with you', instead of supporting them."
In truth, those surrounding states have pretty much left the Palestinians in the lurch since, well, the 1948 war. It's politically useful to have an intergenerational "refugee" population; none of those states actually wants to take in any Palestinians.
Yeah the bodies are piling up everywhere from people dying after eating fried food.
