We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The problem with these videos is that they have edited out all the 'correct' answers and left in the comments that display ignorance, thus matching their preconceived narrative.
Fact: Half of the population is below average.
As long as the uneducated population is not forcing the others to comply, why bother?
This video similar to the 60 minutes report where a GM truck 'bursts' into flames. "Specifically NBC's contractors did put incendiary devices under the trucks to insure there would be a fire if gasoline were released from the gas tank."
I don't have a problem with the exclusion of those that have a clue. He asks people of seemingly normal intelligence questions that are comically nonsensical. He asks them stuff that everybody should know. Trump's kids hunted and killed triceratops. Princess Diana died last week. We just nuked China. I saw a previous one where the same ruse was JFK died last week. They just captured Nessie. Next week it'll be Bigfoot.
I would expect one in a thousand wouldn't know these things. That he can keep doing these shows that there are far more than .01% living their lives in a fog.
It was the Obama strategy in the 2012 election to just incessantly punch through the fog with the message of Romney is elitist and doesn't care about you.
It was part of Trump's strategy to not cede the low-information voter to the media-driven fake news machine. Instead he found a way to speak directly to them and convince enough of them that he was their champion, and that they were respected.
The media now, following O's 2012 playbook, is reduced to just telling outright made up stuff. They don't care if it's wrong, they don't care if it's false, the damage is done by the incessant repetition. Burn through the fog. Trump is a racist, Trump is senile, Trump is gonna die, Trump is Russia's *. It doesn't matter whether there is any truth to any of it. There doesn't need to be. There's no penalty for lying. Incessantly shouting Trump's kids hunted and killed triceratops is how they win.
But the uneducated public DOES force the rest into bad choices. Given that some 20% of voters don't ever vote, those who do, and vote self-interest above what's best for the country, push the enlighten ones' votes into the loser pile. Problem for the enlightened ones is: how to assure the country survives and prospers. What's your idea?
No one in this world, so far as I know—and I have researched the records for years, and employed agents to help me—has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.
-- H. L. Mencken
The joke always is that they'll go along with absolutely anything the guy with the mike and the camera says. It doesn't even occur to them to say, wait, what? It's so important to have the expected views and sound like you're clued in.
So I have no problem with the dark conclusion, "And these people vote."
