We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The estate tax is just a one time property tax on steroids.
There really isn't any truly private property in this country. It's only ours as long as we can pay our ruling masters to keep them from taking it from us.
There really is not that much difference between the present-day Democrats and the Bolsheviks of early 20th century Russia. Both are basically about seizing the wealth of productive citizens and redistributing it to their supporters.
Neither have any care about enhancing the ability to produce wealth, simply taking what there is and giving it to someone else.
The proposed exemption is $7 million for a couple, so the estate tax on $7 million would $0. On an estate of $10 million, the effective tax rate would be 13.5%.
Surely Zach will tell us that Hillary is right, but that she should recommend a higher, 100% estate tax because, well, just because it is there and not confiscated yet.
-and that the government can use it better than its citizens, "for the children" (and secretly for themselves).
-and that she and other politicians who get enormously wealthy on government salaries via bribes and favors, should not pay any taxes because they are "public servants". (Trump had/has a business to earn money, which is evil.
-Hillary sells her 15 minute speeches for $250K, and her Clinton Crime Family Foundation gets hundreds of millions from dictatorial regimes for arms purchases and uranium sales, which should not ever be taxed for policy reasons (because we want to encourage this kind of behavior in politicians?)
Zach, your point is that only the people with over $7 million estate are taxed, but not those super rich "public servants" like Hillary who set up a perpetual foundation to transfer money and power? Good point!!!
jaybird: those super rich "public servants" like Hillary who set up a perpetual foundation
There's no evidence the Clinton's have used their foundation for monetary gain — though there is some evidence that Trump has.
In any case, it's important to note that the estate tax only applies to large estates.
jaybird: Hillary sells her 15 minute speeches for $250K
That's well within normal market rates for someone of her celebrity, and is considered taxable income. The Clintons have provided their tax returns.
jaybird: and her Clinton Crime Family Foundation gets hundreds of millions from dictatorial regimes for arms purchases and uranium sales
The evidence doesn't support such a claim, though there is evidence that Trump owes money to foreign entities, nor has he provided his tax returns.
But if it feels true ...
Zach, do you have a list of "cut and paste" issue responses at your troll farm? That would be an efficient way to automate and run a troll farm. Have a list of "issues" in an issue book, which are "official approved narrative" responses. One official narrative response is say "Clintons get no benefit from their foundation" when the huge amounts paid by dictatorial regimes which want to pay bribes to buy arms and uranium, and other favors are mentioned as evidence of clinton corruption.
The Clinton crime family foundation employs an army of syncophants who promote the clintons (maybe even you?). Its money comes from countries and favor-seekers who want special favors against our country's best interests. Or maybe they don't want to be prosecuted. (like Marc Rich, for which James Comey, unsurprisingly in retrospect, found no illegality"). It pays salaries controlled by its unaccountable Board run by the clintons. Its expenditures are controlled by the clintons. The clintons have phony "transfer" companies to move money around unaccountably. "Expenses" are paid.
You can "cut-and-paste" propaganda at other sites, but you won't fool people here. We can all see the specific issues which draw a response from you, and what narrative you are promoting. We can predict which items will compel a response from you, and approximately what you will say. We can count and keep track.
No it does not.
Very large estates avoud estate tax entirely. See Kennedys, for one example.
Zach, no it isn't a normal "market rate", unless she is selling abnormal favors against the public interest, or avoidance of rules or laws, etc. She is not a "celebrity" No-one pays to hear her dulcet tones. She is a politician who plays favorites, especially those who give money. How can you look at yourself in the mirror without disgust? Have you learned your ethics from her?
jaybird: One official narrative response is say "Clintons get no benefit from their foundation" when the huge amounts paid by dictatorial regimes which want to pay bribes to buy arms and uranium, and other favors are mentioned as evidence of clinton corruption.
There is no evidence that donations to the Clinton Foundation resulted in a favorable decision by State or any other department of government. The uranium deal required approval from many levels of government, and Clinton was not involved even with the decision at State.
jaybird: It pays salaries controlled by its unaccountable Board run by the clintons.
They are subject to independent annual audits, their taxes records are a matter of public record, and their donors are disclosed (which is actually not required).
jaybird: [i]Its expenditures are controlled by the clintons.[/i
Among other things, they help provide life-saving medicine for 11 million people with HIV.
jaybird: no it isn't a normal "market rate"
Reagan charged $2 million in 1989 ($4 million in today's money) for two speeches.
Clinton ($250k) doesn't get paid as much as George Clooney ($500k) — or Donald Trump ($1500k), but does get paid more than Condoleezza Rice ($150k) or Newt Gingrich ($60k).
jaybird: She is not a "celebrity"
Of course Clinton is a celebrity.
bd: Very large estates avoud estate tax entirely.
That's not quite correct. The gift/estate tax is assessed when the trust is set up, but not again with each succeeding generation.
If you own a small business or good size farm, $7MM is not much.
100 years ago we didn't even have income tax... that should blow everyone's mind. Imagine getting a full paycheck every 2 weeks!!!!!!!
You apparently work for the clinton crime family foundation, helping 11 million people with HIV by trolling this website?
The clinton crime family foundation helps HIV sufferers by selling uranium to the Russians for a 150 million bribe. The Russians, of course are increasing their nuclear arsenal at this moment, with this kind of HIV help.
The clinton crime family is audited by the FBI? The IRS tea party auditors? c'mon, tell us another one
Did you know that 99% of statistics
are made up?
jaybird: The clinton crime family foundation helps HIV sufferers by selling uranium to the Russians for a 150 million bribe.
There is no evidence that donations to the Clinton Foundation resulted in a favorable decision by State or any other department of government. The uranium deal required approval from many levels of government, and Clinton was not involved even with the decision at State. Furthermore, the money went to charity, not the Clintons.
jaybird: The clinton crime family is audited by the FBI? The IRS tea party auditors?
The Clintons have been investigated for years, including by the FBI. When you have evidence, let us know.
The Foundation is independently audited annually by Pricecooperswaterhouse. Their financial records are public. Even their donors lists are public, even though that is not legally required.
