We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

NYT actually does parody? Of course it's just E Coast bias showing.
Anyway, pretty funny piece about Stanfraud, and it's great watching left eat their own. Hope they start ripping Harvard for its endowment.
>>Victimhood culture explains what is happening at Emory
really long article, but it can be explained in one sentence.
the passive aggressive tactic of shutting down free speech to usher in totalitarianism in the name of "safety".
Ayn Rand wrote about it in Return of the Primitive.
Just read someone's view about how to treat women who have abortions. They are victims. Wonder when today's women will be expected to behave as responsible adults. Bet it won't be in my lifetime.
the Dependence on Third Parties is being entrenched in psyche in early childhood indoctrination.
The anti-bullying campaign and go tell an adult instead of punching the bully out yourself sees to it that no one is trained in self preservation anymore.
Agreed. Trump should never have walked that back. Kill a baby go to jail. Simple and just.
This was an artful 'gotcha' question and Trump being un-PC fell into it. I do wonder if something is illegal other than abortion should the perp NOT be punished? If something were illegal can you think of any other instance where it shouldn't be punished? Oh yeah illegal immigration...
I was opposed to harm-reduction as a strategy for drug used when it first came onto the scene 20 years ago. It seemed to give permission to kids to do stupid things to their brains and bodies. I like it much better now, having seen some benefit. One of the most interesting things it does is take out all the humor that provides the counterculture attraction. Think Cheech and Chong, Dick Van Dyke's staggering, George Carlin. The banter, bravado, and sniggering turn out to be much of the attraction - with some people most of the attraction. Families can't do the matter-of-fact talking about it well - nor should they be expected to - but you can get a lot of harm reduction with repeated meeting. I'm not sure that's the same thing as "education," however.
Re: Chicago gun crime up 84%
I wonder if there is a single policy or law in Chicago that doesn't contribute this.

Marxist infiltration of the academy goes way back.
In 1971, a friend majoring in History at the U of Illinois told me that virtually every professor in the History Department was a Marxist.
And in my own experience at that university from '68-'71, I would estimate that the only majors not virtually controlled by the Left were Business, Engineering and Computer Science.
I first heard the term 'political correctness' in 1970.

How are peole supposed to 'have a conversation about race problems' when one gets atttacked and shouted down for expressing a simple statement?
In case these folks don't know, conversation involves talking and listening.
RE Millennials’ latest mistake: embracing the ‘starter marriage’
another horribly written article.
the only evidence for starter marriages is a TV sitcom. this is profoundly stupid.
and even this is negated by the assertion that 26% of the vermin are married.
starter marriages imply starter divorces. the only thing this article shows is that these kids aren't getting married.
the evidence also raises the inference that the children have just enough sense to defer marriage until they grow up.
RE Conservatives’ New Strategy to Curb the Executive Branch, Administrative Power
a statutory attack on Chevron U.S.A. Inc. v. Natural Resources Defense Council Inc. is a great idea.
however, Congress can just write laws that create substantive law and the executive agency to administer it and reserve jurisdiction to the courts to interpret all questions of law. why hasn't congress done this?
The question got the response the reporter had hoped for from Trump and the American people. I guess Trump knows now the PC answer is to say we should all just obey laws we agree with. In America it isn't so horrific to tear little limbs apart but to think it might be, just ask Hillary.
"Christopher Dickey and 'Anti-Muslim Hysteria'"
Quite frankly, notwithstanding the constant stream of Islamic extremist outrages, most people in the West have not become hysterically anti-Muslim at all.
Judith, I agree.
The notion that the abortionist is the only guilty party and that the mother is an innocent victim debases the sanctity of the child's life. The victim is the child. Sure, I have compassion for a mother who aborts her baby and only later grasps the evil she has done. The child is defenseless and depends on the mother to protect it. Instead, the mother voluntarily seeks to have the child killed. Insisting that she's a victim is grotesque.
Furthermore, the article claims that mothers only reluctantly abort their children. That's not always the case. Indeed, it may not be the most common case. Many, many mothers use abortion as a retroactive form of birth control that substitutes for their reckless and irresponsible behavior. A child should not be forced to suffer and die for the parents negligence.
I can say this honestly. There is no one on this forum who has given more of his professional (legal) and personal time to the pro life cause.
You (and I mean all of you above) are in shoal waters when you assume anything about women who wind up in abortion clinics or why they are there or who put them there without spending some time in a street-level pro-life center.
ever done an intake interview? I have. I know you haven't.
While this country will ultimately have to answer to what I assume is our mutual God for the unparalleled slaughter of the unborn, abortion also destroys the lives of many of the women who have them. I'd suggest asking one who has, but with all this self-righteous bullshit, you won't find many willing to talk.
The same was true in the 1960s when I was in college, and my grandfather complained that when my mother went away to college in the early 1940s, she came home for vacations with endless Marxist theories "she had never learned at home."
Let's face it: campuses are breeding grounds for totalitarianism, blessed by your tax-dollar-at-work for the enemy, like it or not. Unless one goes to a school that rejects Federal money, such as Hillsdale College in Michigan, the student just becomes fodder for the masses. Our ever-expanding welfare system no longer provides the whack-on-the-side-of-the-head that used to wake up some to the realities of earning a dollar, spending it wisely and honoring our Constitutional Republic which allows us such freedoms. Too many now live off the largesse of the government (i.e. taxpayer) without ever making a sacrifice or working for the bounty they enjoy.
There is simply no comparing the tough and rough circumstances of a woman who elects to cut to pieces the child growing inside her to the pain she causes to that life.
And to suggest that there is is to seek to excuse women who get themselves into fixes where the only way out is the despicable treatment of another human being.
And don't be telling us we're talking "bullshit."
I really don't appreciate YOUR moralizing.
you don't like what I write, don't read it.
you know nothing.
