We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Sums it all up: Immigration: the mother of all issue:
Display comments as (Linear | Threaded)
Those seeking to flee to Canada after Trump is elected are going to find to their dismay that Canada has much stricter immigration laws than we do and they are enforced.
Amen! This is why I get very frustrated with people who go on and on about the 'poor' illegals. We MUST enforce our borders. We MUST have laws about immigration. Every other country on earth does, so why is it terrible if we do the same?
We must push back on the ridiculous notion that our borders should remain porous and illegal immigrants are no big deal.
Once we push back and reverse course, the cries will quiet down. Toddlers whine the loudest when you set your foot down...
Try teaching 20 first-graders speaking 15 different languages.
Try working in an emergency room when the injured or ill speak not one word of the six languages the staff can speak.
Try helping a family whose house just burned down get some food for a few days from their local church (that has accepted their tithes over the years) only to find the cupboards are bare because a wave of "refugees" suddenly were air-lifted to the neighborhood.
I could go on…
I am opposed to legal immigration. Prior to the early 60's legal immigration was mostly a trickle. Ted Kennedy and his posse changed all that for the express purpose of flooding the country with potential Democrats (Ted has other reasons as well). But now legal immigration is out of control. It is so bad that it isn't even reported correctly simply because if it were it would likely piss off a lot of voters. A typical legal immigrant brought here by one of the many organizations that traffic in this cost the government and thus the tax payer about $5000 a month to support and many of them require some level of this support/welfare for the rest of their lives. Why??? Was there some shortage of loafers and neer-do-wells so we had to import them? Was the middle class so rich that we needed to tax them into poverty? What was the reason? The answer is simple. It all began to increase the size and power of the Democrats but it acquired a life of it's own. Now a dozen or so large tax exempt organizations make billions on this immigrant trade and they pay their congressmen quite well for the opportunity to raid the treasury. It will never end because too many people make too much money trafficking in immigrants.
If it were up to me I would end it, deport everyone who was not a citizen and make it illegal for immigrants to ever receive welfare. I would also require that those people/groups who 'sponsored' the immigrants had a legal duty to pay for their care. I would also like to see a law that required non-citizens to spend no more than 180 days in the U.S. out of any consecutive 365 days. Most countries have laws like this and it makes sense.
How about if you are half Canadian and have Canadian second cousins? This is a serious question.
in general, before you insult any more US servicemen who married foreign nationals who are now naturalized US citizens you should rethink your StormFront wetdream.
in particular, you spewed an unsourced, incorrect statement:
I am opposed to legal immigration. ... A typical legal immigrant brought here by one of the many organizations that traffic in this cost the government and thus the tax payer about $5000 a month to support and many of them require some level of this support/welfare for the rest of their lives.
your grasp of immigration law is grossly underwhelming.
I was going to say more, but I think I'll ask my wife to comment on your bullshit. She was a foreign national who married a serving naval officer way back when and is now a US citizen and my law partner.
that is, if Mr. Bird Dog allows it, which, given her likely remarks, he will not. besides, you've been castrated enough.
I understand that different people have different opinions and you are welcome to have one. But why you ALWAYS choose to be as insulting as possible to everyone is beyond me. Maybe you should have your wife address that.
Our government does not have any responsibility to take care of, import or encourage anyone who is not a citizen. Our government agencies and politicians are being used and our citizens are being exploited. We don't need immigrants we have too many people arguably and we don't do enough to help our own citizens. While I fully understand why someone would want to immigrate here I do not understand why we allow it. Every immigrant 'takes' from we citizens. How many can we absorb? I don't know but with all the people out of work and all the jobs in the last 8 years going to immigrants legal and illegal I think we have reached our limit.
That is my opinion. Yes, I know it isn't going to change. The powers that be are going to sell off this country piece by piece and if you object you are called names. We will see soon enough what a mistake it was/is to allow unlimited immigration.
If I could believe Trump on this issue I would feel a lot more comfortable voting for him the general should he make it. But, I don't.
you understand nothing.
she said white supremacists like you aren't worth some unprintable things.
I know no serviceman or veteran who wouldn't kick your ass apart if you insulted their wives like that.
so, seriously, little man, think this through before you make the mistake of saying that bullshit in person instead of from your safe place on the internet.
Much of this was predicted in the 90s. Think on this. There are four BBBBBillion people on the planet dependent on subsistence agriculture, what happens when they are displaced?
If one of your parents is Canadian, you could already be a Canadian citizen.
What a crock of crap. White supremacist my ass. Your argument is fatuous and I doubt you would try to use something so transparently stupid in a legal argument. It is right out of the Saul Alinsky handbook of dirty tricks, claim to be a victim and call the 'target' names. A decision to allow or not allow immigration is a policy pure and simple and not racism or white supremacism. And the choice to support one side of the argument in favor of or against such a policy is merely an opinion. I sincerely hope you are more cogent in your law practice.
I do not believe that unfettered immigration is beneficial to this country AND to it's citizens. Simple as that. I think that what we see happening is exploitation of America and it's middle class by the politicians, the idle rich and a lot of outside meddlers who want to take what we have; share it if you will by force if necessary. That is my opinion, come by honestly and stated openly. In the last 60 years we have accelerated immigration both legal and illegal. Most of these people cannot be sent home so my belief is we need an absolute moratorium on immigration until all of the legal immigrants can be assimilated. That is speaking English, working and self supporting and become good citizens. This would probably take another 60 years BUT since we have over immigrated over the last 60 years the end result would be balanced. After that time I think the citizens should get a nation wide popular vote to decide if they want to have immigration. Simple as that, no white, black, red or yellow racism. Just a desire to put the U.S. first and to put the citizens first and eliminate the selling off and exploitation of our country.
explain again why you think you're better than my naturalized wife and why you'd deport her if she were just an LPR. I didn't get it the first time.
Still playing the victim card? None of this discussion is about the individual it is about the policy. I simply do not think unfettered immigration is in the best interests of Americans and in particular the middle class who will ultimately pay for this and not just by losing their wealth.
no, I'm asking you why you'd deport my wife, because you said you're opposed to all legal immigration, not just unfettered immigration.
you were caught in an asshatted claim, aggravated it by changing your position and then asserting that public policy does not affect individuals.
its funny watching you squirm in your own spew.
My wife's father was an LPR. He was an H-1B employee for 40 years until he died. A really nice guy a credit to his own country and his adopted country. He didn't ever take welfare or handouts but he did hold down a job that certainly never required an H-1B alien employee. Yes I think that as much of this mistake should be "undone" as possible and I would still be in favor of deporting anyone who was not a citizen to in some small way correct the excessive misguided immigration of the last 60 years. To be honest I don't see the problem. The country you moved to wants you to go home so you go home! Get it? HOME. No one is sending them to hell or prison they want them to go home. I go home every day and so far so good.
I don't squirm and don't have spew and I pretty much don't care what anyone not in my immediate family thinks. Yes! Public policy does indeed affect individuals. We individual citizens are all paying huge taxes to support all the free loading legal and illegal aliens. Our misguided public policy is why so many Americans are out of work. Put America(ns) first.
