We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I've used VRBO, at least to locate properties, for over 15 years.
But I've learned something that is important to enjoying your vacation: Find the house on VRBO because the search functions are great, but then check to see if there is a local property management company that you can book through instead of the owner.
We took a vacation to St. George Island, FL a few years ago. The house was great. We rented directly from an off site homeowner. The A/C broke in an area of the house and the owner was unresponsive. This was really aggravating as you could watch the service vans of the two property management companies that dominated the local market drive past the house every few minutes.
