We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The last two weeks of August throughout the 60's we packed up for Welfleet, staying out in Indian Neck Heights. Swimming in the warm Bay in the early morning, Newcombe Hollow with our rafts in the afternoon, then hitting gorgeous Gull Pond on the way back so we could wash off all the salt. Dinner of little necks, corn, salad and something off the hibachi which my parents always carried in the trunk of their car. Then over to the pier for ice cream. My mother would stay at the cottage and blink the patio light on and off for us. We could see the light blinking, blinking, blinking from across the cove.
