We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
She's right. I do understand the desire on the part of most blacks to never let a good crisis go to waste and to play this for all it's worth but it's there city and their own people being harmed. Worse, I can guarantee you that all over the country the good folks of all backgrounds, ethnicities and persuasions are getting a very bad impression about black people and they aren't buyng the meme that it's all the police and governments fault. Let's be honest we all know who is at fault in the rioting, looting and killing going on in various towns across America in the name of the various black thugs who have been killed by police. Everyone is reconsidering driving, flying to or through any of the many towns were the black minority is large and threatening. If the plan is for blackleaders to use all the unrest to get more power and more "free stuff" that may well work. However if the plan were to create change that would improve the lives and communities that blacks live in this is not going to do that. This is the stupidist self defeating, economically suicidal thing that blacks could do.
So that's why I've been getting dirty looks at Walmart lately!
The fallout from the recent uptick in black-on-black (yep, sad but true) violence is people who aren't black will have their biases reinforced. Hopefully, not everyone is that shallow, but yes, people who are that shallow will view all blacks as these unthinking, feral monsters looking for an excuse to destroy.
Do not fallso easily for the bias shaming or shallow shaming meme. According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, in 2010, 62,593 blacks were the victims of white violence. During that same year, 320,082 whites were the victims of black violence. That’s five times as many violent attacks, but that number is misleading, since the black and white populations are not the same size. When 38 million black Americans commit five times as many violent crimes on 197 million whites as they receive, what you discover is that black perpetrators violently assault White victims TWENTY-FIVE times more frequently. When it comes to a specific kind of violent crime -- aggravated assault -- the number of black on white crimes is TWO HUNDRED TIMES HIGHER than white on black crimes. Oh, there’s an epidemic of racial violence in America, all right. There is a very good reason that a simple law abiding person has their "biases reinforced" when they see the organized and disorganized violence in Baltimore and St Louis and other cities with large black populations. It would be a mistake to assume that there is nothing to worry about. Yes, what we are seeing is a lot of "unthinking, feral monsters looking for an excuse to destroy".
Well said, but the larger issue is the “brand name” that black males have earned for themselves. When anyone buys a product they look first for a trustworthy brand. And a businessman looks for workers in the same way. My experience is that the black male brand doesn’t hav the respect achieved by black females. Unfortunately the working black mothers or grandmothers can’t improve the male brand alone. In the 1930’s FDR’s “CCC” program was run under U.S. Army discipline. They took unemployed depression youth, gave them room and board and minimal pay and taught them the self discipline to enable them to learn work skills. Those men became part of the furure backbone of America. Only when black males learn to submit to such training will they gain a respected brand name. Bill Clinton accomplished much through his “Workfare”, but that was only a starter.
FDR had some answers
