We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Rutgers Professor Brittney Cooper = Ethnic and Gender Studies.
Another mis-labeled person! No one with that background of so-called "scholarshi"p should ever be granted a professorship at any academic institution wishing to keep its credentials.
Bets on whether she's lesbian, to go with her "esteemed personal credentials"? But then, by hiring her, the institution gets to check off several boxes on the diversity requirements list!
Dear Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi,
Would you like to go on a speaking tour of the USA? I'm sure we could guarantee your expenses be paid for and I don't see how any American College could refuse to offer you a generous speaking fee.
I myself wouldn't be attending any of your lectures since I think you're full of manure and I understand exactly what you are and where you come from. But I (and many others) think that first hand exposure to your (uncensored) thoughts about Modern Sexuality would have a very sobering effect on young, progressive Americans.
I'd suggest starting your tour in San Francisco.
Re: Mea Culpa
I think a lot of people are surprised at the thuggishness of the gay marriage proponents, but we shouldn't have been. They are part of the left and it's jihad against Western values.
"Ethnic and gender studies", "hispanic/latino studies", "African American studies", "LGBT studies".
They are of course all known as "hate studies". Do you actually know what is taught and what the indoctrination is in these hate studies courses. You could go to jail for "preaching" these things on the street corner against any of these "protected groups". In a bizarre Machiavellian/Alinsky world it is not just acceptable for them to preach their hate towards whites and men but is encouraged and mandated. I too was guilty of once upon a time thinking this was only about equal treatment under the law, and dismissing conservatives' fears that this slippery slope would lead to repression and punishment of whites, Christians, heterosexuals and men lacking color. The left and these deeply flawed "protected classes" of the left have become the neo Al Shabaab of America. They hunt down Christians, straights, people of European origin and target them for destruction. This has become a forcible conversion to the religion of the left with the full force of the government and the media tightening the screws if you do not willingly and even happily conform. You will be absorbed or made to suffer for your resistance. You have been warned. The bill of rights only apply to those groups who have been granted "protected class" status.
re Leading Islamic Scholars Justify Executing, Stoning, and Shooting Gays
I just don’t understand the double standard. When a Muslim bakery says they won’t cater a gay wedding, there is no outrage. When Muslims hurl gays Muslims from roof tops there is no outrage. And yet, let a little Mom & Pop business decline to cater to the gay community and the Left will go ape sh*t wild. One would think they could see that Muslims are a far greater threat to their existence than Christians? Judging by their actions, apparently not.
One can only conclude that the gay rights movement isn't about gay rights at all. It is about wielding raw political power and bludgeoning one's opponents with whatever weapons are at one's disposal, be it gay rights, climate change, racism, the war on women, or the deep state. It explains why such problems can never be declared to be solved. To do so would deprive the Left of weapons in its arsenal.
Gay rights, feminism, white privilege, etc, are just clubs with which to beat Western Civilization.
"I just don’t understand the double standard."
Easy: let's just say Islam is somewhat more "muscular" in defending itself than Christianity is.
Re: Real Reason College Tuition Costs So Much
So it's not the new palatial dorms, exercise rooms, cafeterias, and other amenities we hear about, it's the bureaucracy (actually, I think it's both).
At least part of the bureaucracy is because of the ridiculous regulations demanded by students (and egged on by the lefty faculty) such as diversity. Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g60ON91ClLA
If this is the vision of our "best and brightest", we are in deep trouble... But we knew that already (for many other reasons), didn't we?
“The moral is to the physical as three is to one.” Napoleon
This is a recent development, or a stagnation that is only in the last and present generation. Islam will continue to conquer new worlds at the expense of Christianity until we find our moral compass again. It's not enough to fill our churches with people on Easter Sunday but on the 4th of July. And remove from our pulpits those "New Age" ministers who would rather we worship trees and New Men like Barack. We cannot hold our ground against the death cult, let alone take back what was ours, until our faith is as strong or stronger than theirs.
For the Moral is to the Physical, as is Three to One.
Looking back at the accommodations tolerated by my parents, my husband, my siblings and me; and my children, the few grandchildren I have who are of that college age are living far better than any of their elders lived after many years of employment and marriage!
I agree the administrative costs for handling all the special groups and monies from various government sources is outlandish and contributing to the cost, but so are the high-end suite-style apartments with all the accoutrements that many of their elders still can afford. This generation is going to have a rude awakening when the bottom falls out (if it hasn't already) and no one is there to catch them.
I think my son's experience at Fordham today is very similar to my college experience at George Washington University (back in the late 70's) although it was far easier for my parents to pay for my tuition back then ( 1/10 of their income) than for us to pay for our son's.
My daughter is about to get her Masters in Physics from Heidelberg University in Germany. Besides having an intership from Max Planck Institute on her CV now, she's saved me about $40,000 in tuition. It costs us about $200 a semester for tuition there with room and board about $1300 a month.
What a deal!
Beautiful old town too although the actual university is modern brutalist.
