We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Anti-science is all the rage. It isn't just Prince Charles that believes in vitalism and it's many progeny. I thought that the one line in the story captured the problem and hypocrisy of alternative medicine perfectly: "The Royal family is famous for using homeopathy and other doubtful treatments while they are healthy, and for employing the very best conventional medicine has to offer as soon as they are ill." The problem is that many people get converted to the quackery and fail to ever get a science based treatment for serious health problems. Alternative medicine has changed the standard from "first do no harm" to "first do nothing useful".
