We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The Dems sure do have their number, don't they? Remember all of those Obama ads we thought we so vulgar, retarded, and full of lies? They worked on single women, and other people too. They knew who they were talking to. It should be remarkable that Romney did as well as he did.
It's easy to forget, living as many of us do among people who have an abiding interest in policy, economics, and politics, that most people have only a casual interest in these things except insofar as they might directly affect them or excite them with tingles.
Reagan had the knack of reaching the low- and high-information voter at the same time. He could deliver boob bait for the Bubbas and Bubbettes while offering an inspiring theory of freedom and free markets to the more sophisticated. Perhaps Obama does the same, with a theory of serfdom and government markets for the bubbettes, the poor-but-happy dependents, and urban metrosexuals. Serfdom is hip these days and dependency is cool. The New America.
This is h/t Black and Right. I think the fat gal just hopes she might need Planned Parenthood someday. Maybe if she gets him drunk enough on Tequila shots she can earn her free abortion.
This was fascinating to watch...and really very true! I have a lot of liberal women friends on Facebook. And before the election, all I was seeing them talk about were social issues...gay marriage, abortion rights, equal pay for woman, etc. There was no discussion about the economy or the debt.
As a woman, I find that embarrassing. How can any woman vote solely based on something as small as gay marriage, when our country is in a economic pit of dispair? If they understood anything at all, they would realize that Republicans know getting rid of Roe v. Wade is nearly impossible, that we believe in state's rights to decide the gay marriage issue, and we don't care if you use birth control or not. But somehow liberal women truly believe we are targeting them and want to send them back to the dark ages.
Weird. Baffling. Sadly uninformed.
I'm embarrassed that others of my sex are so ignorant of economic issues and don't even want to understand them.
As a semi-hemi-demi student of history, it seems to me that every society, at some point in time, develops an almost psychotic personality in which rejection of the past is paramount to acceptance of the future.
Speaking only for myself, I've wondered where the concept of personal responsibility and independence went. I think the answer is too much information. Stupid people with no information think they have all the information.
As another woman, I'm continually embarassed that women were ever given the vote. Those women who fought so hard for that right would be mortified to see what modern women base their vote on.
I constantly hear things like, "I'm voting for XXX because he's hot."
OMG! If that's all that matters to you, do the rest of us a favour and stay home on election day.
I'm asking myself the same question about where the idea of personal responsibility went. It's insulting that the Government, or even worse, Society, thinks it knows better than me what is best for me and my family. It's terrifying to see that with the combination of doubled electric prices out here in coal country and our almost tripled health insurance premiums that keep on going up and the rising cost of gasoline [all since 2008], the government has stacked the deck against us. It would be so Easy to just give in and let them take care of it all.... And, therefore, many do give in.
