We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The nephew of a long-time friend of mine was critically injured in Afghanistan back in February. Suffered the loss of both his legs and one arm from a suicide bomber. He made it back to the burn unit in San Antonio, but died last week. His funeral was yesterday in Ithaca.
I never met the Corporal, but followed his teenage years and then his enlistment and service in the Marine Corps. Like many I suppose, the Marine Corps "grew him up" and he turned out to be a fine soldier and a wonderful husband during his all too short marriage. In other words, as we say down South, he done good.
As I told my friend, America only sends its best to defend us.
