We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
REX MURPHY: Global Warming Runs Out Of Gas.“In tight economic times people are naturally unwilling to engage in the comicbook fantasies of the wilder environmentalists. Perhaps Climategate gave a too-souring glimpse into the mixture of science and advocacy that has, to some extent, corrupted both. Perhaps, finally, the unctuousness, sanctimony and sputtering righteousness of the high profile environmentalists signal to most observers that they aren’t really as certain of all this ‘science’ as they pretend to be. “
Surely you don't think the EPA is being guided by anything but political ideology. There is no valid science behind it and I suspect they actually know it deep down. They are on political inertia that what they once believed, they will always believe regardless of the evidence to the contrary. (Actually, that is the most generous thing I can say about them.)
These people are, the the truest sense, the Flat Earthers of the twentieth and twenty first century. Exactly none of their great ideas has worked on any measurable scale and in fact has been shown to be a complete waste of time and money at best and more often has been corrosive to the whole society, but mostly to the strata they claim to champion. Yet they still believe.
Anyone claiming "global warming is dead" should to be taken out to the street and publicly shot given a stern talking to.
1. Just because Cap 'n' Trade didn't pass and our Congress is too weak-kneed to defund the EPA doesn't mean that the ball isn't rolling. Between regulation, fiat and executive order, you can bet your ass it's rolling.
2. I've spent a good number of hours surfing the 'net today, and I bet I've read fifteen references and articles specifically noting some danger of global warming. Maybe twenty.
There is zero empirical, testable evidence showing that CO2 has caused any global harm. Therefore, ipso facto, CO2 is HARMLESS.
Furthermore, the rise in CO2 [which is still only a minuscule trace gas comprising only 0.00039 of the atmosphere] has directly resulted in substantially increased agricultural production. There is ample evidence of that fact, and it is indisputable. In a world where one-third of the population subsists on less than $2 a day, more beneficial CO2 has saved countless lives.
Therefore, CO2 is both harmless and beneficial. QED
Smokey ... Of course CO2 is harmless and beneficial. Indeed it is absolutely essential to the continuing health of Earth. This essential gas is the fertilizer that keeps all our plant life, from redwoods to grasses to crops, alive. The always ill-informed "environmentalists" don't admit this, but if you want to live in a sandbox, for the few days/hours you have left, get rid of all CO2.
I ran a fifty foot orchid greenhouse for twenty years, and greenhouse growers will often use CO2 generators to increase the CO2 and benefit the plants.
In the old days, before so-called environmentalists decided to run our lives and make our decisions for us, people who had relatives in the hospital, used to bring them green plants which would absorb the CO2 and exude extra oxygen, to benefit the ill. But don't try to tell the environuts. They'll just shout you down.
