We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
A waste of paper to print it on, of electrons to distribute it and time to read it. Nobody worries about the color of your hair, but for some reason, the color of your skin makes some sort of difference?
Oh, that's right! A lot of people in the US 150 years ago were slaves and had no right of self determination... Well, how long are we going to carry this memory around???
What about the fact that blacks are more likely to be in poverty or in low wage/skill jobs?? If you ignore race, the statistics for the success of an individual (we are individuals, aren't we) show that cultural issues (like stable two parent families and work ethic) have much more to do with it than skin color. I suspect it is also true of hair color, but nobody's studied that. As for the type of jobs many blacks have - I took mechanical engineering and computer science in college. There were VERY few blacks in those disciplines. That was a big clue why I work with very few blacks. I do, however, work with a lot of Chinese and Indians.
I've already wasted too much time talking about race. I'm stopping.
