We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
A JOB, A DRIVERS LICENSE, SOCIAL SECURITY CARD, WELFARE, FOOD STAMPS, CREDIT CARDS, SUBSIDIZED RENT OR A LOAN TO BUY A HOUSE, FREE EDUCATION, FREE HEALTH CARE, A LOBBYIST IN WASHINGTON BILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF PUBLIC DOCUMENTS PRINTED IN YOUR LANGUAGE THE RIGHT TO CARRY YOUR COUNTRYíS FLAG WHILE YOU PROTEST THAT YOU DONíT GET ENOUGH RESPECT * AND, IN MANY INSTANCES, YOU CAN VOTE.
I am not defending the US federal government's failure to secure our borders. Nor am I defending illegal immigration or illegal immigrants.
I feel obliged to point out, however, that these are all places most of us would not want to live regardless of the sanctity of their borders.
Whenever the price of gasoline rises dramatically here in the US a similar list of countries is sent around with their incredibly low gasoline prices. They are all places few of us would want to live regardless of how inexpensive their gasoline is.
Our borders may not be as secure as Iran's, and our gasoline may be many times more expensive, but I don't want to live in Iran.
K, I don't think the point of the post is to compare the U.S. unfavorably to Iran et al. It's just to point out the idiocy of asserting that the U.S.'s border policy -- what's left of it -- is somehow repressive.
Actually, in some markets, the local cable company will supply cable at extremely discounted rates or even free to the "disadvantaged," with the balance of their rate being subsidized by grants from the state, via the federal government.
Yup! In the peoples republic of Massachusetts, though some meanies are trying to stop it, while the progressives are pissed that the program has only given away a few hundred cars. And NO FREE GAS, whats up with that?
