The Pope's basic concept of good stewardship is valid in almost any religion. The Pope's specific concept is foolish. The Pope's knowledge of theology and philosphy may be vast but his knowledge of economics and science is clearly faulty.
Every program to decrease CO2 emissions will harm the world's destitute far more than it will inconvenience me (and it sure will inconvenience me). Every program to transfer wealth from the (basically) North to the (basically) South will put loot in the hands of oppressive thieves and deny opportunity to the very same poor about whom all kindly people are concerned.

I did mean globally. There are exceptions, but most Southern Hemisphere nations are oppressive and poor. Most wealthy and free nations are in the North. Australia and New Zealand are the most important exceptions. There is hope for Chile and Brazil; South Africa dodged some of the horrors that have hit Zimbabwe and neighbors.
The wealth will transfer from the North to the dictators, though. Darn little will reach the poor.
