We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
When I was working at a grocery store in 1980, I had to join the AFL-CIO. I was told "it's a value - you get a raise once you join the union". Indeed, I did get that raise.
The part they don't tell you is that your union dues are MORE than the raise you get!!
It was absurd. I was so angry. Everyone who had been there had forgotten that the first 2 years you suffer in a union. After that, it gets easier. Only the long term veterans benefit - if you can stick it out, it's worth it.
Kathy Castor(D) inherited her job from her mother Betty Castor who has been in many offices. Hillsborough County has the City of Tampa which is very Democratic and the suburbs which are very Republican. We are part of the I-4 voting corridor that tips some election. Sadly Obama carried this area last year and people I knew that normally voted R voted for Obama because they were sick of Bush and the economy. Now some of them admit they are not so sure about that HOPE and CHANGE.
