We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Luther ... You are a splendid gentleman. And you display that most appealing of all male characteristics. You like us. And I think I speak for all the ladies here when I say "we're touched." And we surely do like you.
Like just about everybody else, back in my 20s, I spent a couple of wonderful weekends with a beautiful woman (the latest of whom I celebrated our 25th anniversary with last month) doing what 20-somethings always want to do. While I confess to having had nothing more than carnal thoughts at the time, those moments become treasures later in life.
The thing that has always amazed me is that, in my limited experience, it is a rare 20-something woman who recognizes the absolute power that her beauty can have over a man. Yeah--she knows she's pretty, and she knows that her guy is a horndog with a raging erection--but that image of her at the breakfast table after a night of who-knows-what stays with a man the rest of his life.
And I agree with Luther: As she goes through life, her form changes, but she remains beautiful none-the-less.
