We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Our reader advises "don't read this" unless you want to feel depressed all day - or longer. It's Dick Morris' Here Comes Socialism. He begins:
Do not read the whole thing at the link above.

The same stars were aligned for Clinton in 1993 and the Democrats blew it. Hopefully, with a little help from the Republicans, they will screw it up again. That is my Hope.
Europe's social democracies for decades on decades now have had unemployment rates two and three times ours. One wonders how they stay in office. Then one realizes that since this 'kept' fraction will always vote for more 'keep', the answer is in the question.
If an election is a race, when the other parties run a 100 meter dash, the social democrats line up ten yards already down track & run only 90 meters. So long as the finish line is in place, and that's where the attention always stays, everything will seem to be in order.
Of course, the money is only a part of that sad story. The rest of it is in the souring of the social compact, the cultivation of cynicism, the dimming of idealism, and the strangulation of incentive and ambition.
I seem to recall that Dick Morris predict that Hillary Clinton would be the next president a few years ago. He's not always correct in his predictions. Let's hope that's the case with this article.
I'll agree that he's not the sharpest pundit in the box, but he does have one thing correct:
"But it is not his spending that will transform our political system, it is his tax and welfare policies. In the name of short-term stimulus, he will give every American family (who makes less than $200,000) a welfare check of $1,000 euphemistically called a refundable tax credit. And he will so sharply cut taxes on the middle class and the poor that the number of Americans who pay no federal income tax will rise from the current one-third of all households to more than half. In the process, he will create a permanent electoral majority that does not pay taxes, but counts on ever-expanding welfare checks from the government. The dependency on the dole, formerly limited in pre-Clinton days to 14 million women and children on Aid to Families with Dependent Children, will now grow to a clear majority of the American population."
The Republicans had better watch him closely and fight every single move that promises to fulfill this scenario--no matter how seemingly trifling--because the Dems definitely are going to try to do this. They did it in Chicago. You'll notice they have no political competitors in Chicago. It's basically bribery as a political philosophy.
Hello and good day,
I am firmly convinced that Obama sometime in the Hall of Fame will soar.
Obama will revolutionize America!
It is quite possible that the American system in part to the German will be aligned.
I look forward to the future and I am curious what changes will occur by Obama!
Our secret has always been "upward mobility" --meaning, the past has never shackled any individual willing to deliver what the market wants. Any "change" from that model --that foundational civic philosophy --cannot possibly, repeat, cannot POSSIBLY, be a change for the better.
"Change" ain't such a great word when it means 'change' from say, not having lung cancer to say, having lung cancer.
"Great news, Doc! I do SO love change!"
Since I had to read the whole thing, it's heartening to read that Morris and I agree on the following.
"So Obama’s name will be mud by 2012 and probably by 2010 as well. And the Republican Party will make big gains and regain much of its lost power."
Definitely, BHO is already mud in my estimation.
I read an article by Chuck Norris this am which quotes Abraham Lincoln thusly;
"I will say then that I am not nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races -- that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes nor of qualifying them to hold office nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races, which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together, there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the Negro should be denied everything."
BHO is a joke-a bad joke on the American people.
Especially the conservatives and Rinos who voted for the mudboy.
That is fine leadership by Lincoln. He calmed two warring factions with words and then turned around and did the right thing.
i agree with meta, the deep southeren belle and admirer of the bravery of the Lost Cause and also (contradictorily like myself) an admirer of Lincoln and US Grant.
Leag, please. Refine yourself, son. Save 'mudboy' for Armageddon.
suit yourself, Leag. just remember, when you advocate for the Catholic Church, as you often & laudably do, you'll have one less reader, since i can't reconcile the two viewpoints, and have to therefore consign you in my book to 'noise'.
How do we get to be political refugees in your country. We've had only one short holiday in New England and we loved it.
Things here in the UK are dire and if that wasn't bad enough our direness is wrapped around with the EU which just compounds the problem.
You may be worrying about what is going to happen to you, but it hasn't fully happened yet and you still have maybe only a remote chance, but a chance nevertheless to wake up and do something about it.
I fear we have pased the point of no return.
How realistic is it for us to remove ourselves to a land more free (Old, slightly decrepit and not fabulously wealthy but not exactly on the breadline either)
Plenty of room for you here in the Lone Star state, Mr. Kelley --y'all come!
Obama, too big to fail ? Obama , and his band of Chicago thugs know they have the MSM in their back pockets. That's the reason Newt Gingrich didn't give serious consideration for the Republican nomination, ($30m wasn't raised in a short time.) Fred Thompson only gave a half-hearted attempt,Mike Huckabee, couldn't get traction because of his faith, Mitt Romney was willing to swim against the tide because of his financial resource, in the end the MSM's undertow drowned him...each one of these guys could read the tea leaves and very smartly stepped aside to fight another day. That left John McCain.. not capable of going up against the Obama Chicago machine, but a war hero who was willing to fall on his sword for the good of his country.
Barry is in over his head and knows it, just as he was when President of the Harvard Law Review leaving no records of anything written by him... now he's going to be in the history books and that's not bad.
Too Big to Fail , is probably correct if the MSM has anything to say about it ..more importantly , 'He Can Do No Wrong', or so he thinks. The shenanigans, scandals and crimes of past administrations ie. JFK's behind closed doors pharmaceutical use and sexcapades ..LBJ' war boondoggle , Nixon's abuse of power, Billy Boy's serial raper/pervert activities will pale in comparison to what is awaiting the current president..simply because he believes HIS press...he will try to get away with unbelievable things in the Oval Office, poke his finger in the eye of the man, on behalf of the disenfranchised..his Hip-Hip buddies will be there to direct him, he won't be able to resist... but there will be that one Woodward & Bernstein that would like to win a Pulitzer and will drop him into the grease.
Good luck Mr President, you're going to need it.
Hear, hear, Ron. He's made the press edgy already after shutting them out of a few things and sending them away. This after promising transparency - which usually comes through the press. I think they will turn on him like a pack of hounds if he doesn't give them what they want. They are each prima donnas and hell hath no fury like a reporter scorned.
Hey flug, take your hand out of your pants and don't operate any heavy equipment!
If Woodstein & Bernward had gone after the Mob like they went after the Californians, they'd have quickly had their pencils so far up their...well you can finish the sentence.
Boo me lil heart is broken, so broken.
Yall love for Mudboy is well remembered so I'm not suprised yall be drinkin' the Muhammadan koolaid.
How's yall's middle fingers doing, boy?
Lost them yet?
