We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Yes, I did have a good hunt yesterday. Thanks for asking. Grouse. Got two, missed two. Passed on shooting one in a Birch tree. Passed on a Woodcock in a swamp because I could not remember whether they were still in season. I was right to pass on that tempting bird. Tired legs from tramping through the snow all day.
We all want longer, healthier lives but it's going to cost us. WaPo. One quote:
We are on a collision course between our wish to live longer, healthier lives and our capacity to pay for that wish. Whether we can somehow avoid the collision is perhaps the most important domestic issue of this century. From now on, health care costs will be up there with globalization, terrorism and climate change as a force shaping our world.
Let's fry up some fresh Sea Kittens. Perfect for those good folks who like to eat pussies.
There are a number of possible explanation for Obama's pessimism. Perhaps he's trying to lower expectations now that he is boxed in and can't possibly fulfill the extravagant promises he has made to his core constituencies.
I prefer a different explanation. Obama is a liberal. Liberals are by nature pessimistic, not because they are smart, but because they are failures. Liberals are failures in life because the core ideas that underlie their world view are inherently unsound. Obama was a failure as a community organizer because the premises of his idealism were wrong. Now, as President, he sees himself as the country's Community Organizer in Chief. To that role he brings the same pessimism of his past failures.
A bud and I hunted for 3hrs covered quite a bit of ground in VA and didnt jump a single bird....still good to get out. Got a bit misty as we hunted some of the ground that my now 13yo lab used to cover as a pup.
