Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Wednesday, January 10. 2007Onward Christian Soldiers! Is this "Scare the Jews" again? The Religio-Fascists are coming! The Religio-Fascists are coming! Dunn at American Thinker considers ex-NYT reporter Hedge's new book.
The book sounds either paranoid, or purely manipulative and political. Almost sounds like a "Scare the Jews" book. The Am Thinker piece here. Classical Values takes a look at the same subject. What these fear-mongers do not choose to understand is that Christians want dominion over nothing and nobody. Of course they prefer to live in a culture where Christian morality and Christian worship is valued - they would be foolish not to want that. But the dominion the Lord offers is a dominion of the Spirit, not a worldly one. It's called "The Kingdom of God." Maybe they just don't get it?

The book sounds stupid. I am so sick of these idiots, most of whom strike me as little totalitarian wannabees, writing this ignorant junk.
Yes, it is ignorant. But it is also malicious, if not malevolent.
Hedges is right about one thing- the socialist godless Dems do need to be smote. Or is it smitten, which they already are with their sanctimonious Disbelief?
In a fight between a somewhat Christian and ecumenical US vs. Secularists and Islamists, Hedges and other righteous leftists are against that which has taken us so very far as civilized humans. God help us! Well, speaking as a Christian, I can say that our pastor continually exhorts us to be prepared to take to the streets at night with pitchforks and torches, searching for liberal monsters in their bumper-stickered Volvos. Just like in them Frankenstein movies.
So we keep our pitchforks in the garden shed next to the potting soil, like the good little Christianists that we are. There is no way to satiate the immense need of the Left to feel persecuted by people with traditional values. I read Dunn's American Thinker piece early this A.M. Yesterday I read an article by Ann Coulter or perhaps it was, well whoever, outling the fascism displayed at Columbia University in NYC and Ann Coulters encounter at Arizona or Dumb and Dumber University where the invited guest were shouted down, and in the case at Columbia physically assaulted. This was the case where Minuteman Project organizer Jim Gilchrist was assaulted by students who were being fascists.
Now comes the Pelosi Polloui to wave the fascist flag at everything on the right by resurrrecting Tailgunner Joe McCarthy. The one thing lost in most leftest writers pieces about Joe is that the years and declassified files proved he was right...commies were all over the State Department, which is still leftist. We'll be forced to endure a minimum of two years of Democratic Party crackpotism before we get a shot at putting them back inside the chainlinked schoolyard. But NO conversation, no editorial,no economic analysis, NOTHING can evade the overarching challenge of getting Islam slowed down and in retrograde. ALL else is moot if we miss the chance RIGHT NOW to cripple Iran, Syria, and any other Muslim country exporting their ideology of death. So where did the Democrats (Nancy P) place the first Muslim in Congress? On the Judiciary Committee where his sharia Islamic laws can be wormed into the body politic. The enemy is within as well as out and many of us must stand ready to defend Jeffersons tree of liberty. Lock and Load. Meanwhile, American/Anglo/ Euro leftists completely understand their revolutionary totalitarian and presidente por vida Hugo Chavez, friend and favorite of Jesus Christ Carter, saying, "I swear by Christ — the greatest socialist in history."
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2007-01-10-chavez-venezuela_x.htm?csp=34 IOW, Jesus for me and not for thee. Well, a confession. I do belong to our local Christian Militia. 1000 study Christian men, linked with such militias all across the country, all armed with AR-10s, and we are planning to take over America at the right moment, and finally establish the theocratic military dictatorship of Christ that America was always meant to be.
I forgot to mention that all of our guns, ammo, kevlar vests, and swords are supplied by the RNC and Pat Robertson.
(low whispering voice) BD,BD this is Habu, come in BD..shhh is the word.
Stay loosely affiliated, just know like minded citizens who know how to operate in a highly dynamic environment. Stay off lists of formalized militias. Keep a call web. Keep a grab and go bag. I'm confident that the next time they hit us they'll be time to examine prayer rugs closely enough to tell an Isfahan from a Rafsanjan ....shhh My children, tho Christian, have enough exposure to the pc pablum fed them thru the public school system to be fun to tease. So I tell them approvingly about Spanish conquistador conversions at the point of a sword, or that Chinese nationalist general baptising his troops in WWII with a hose. They were appalled to discover that my husband and I had engraved "Deus Vult" (the Crusader battle cry, God wills it), inside our wedding bands as they have been taught at school to consider the Crusaders murderous villains.
In more serious moments we have cheered and cried over every schmaltzy Biblical epic and tale of Christian martyrs and noble missionaries to China and Africa, watch films like "The Mission" and discuss people dying for their faith, the ways missionaries sometimes are used for other people's geopolitical ambitions, sometimes sacrifice themselves in the service of the people they preach the Good News to. Sobering conversation the other day about Langdon Gilkey's study "Shantung Compound" about a bunch of Europeans and Americans interned in China by the invading Japs during WWII, and how the community they had to create for themselves under guard showed the best and worst of people. The American missionaries and business types didn't behave very well. The heroes of the story were the celibate Dutch Roman Catholic brothers who dug the latrines and sang and performed acts of charity for all. Check it out: http://www.amazon.com/Shantung-Compound-Story-Under-Pressure/dp/0060631120 At the risk of many a teenaged "Whatever" I will remind my kids whenever they are in the car with me that God cares more about us building His kingdom here on earth than about our being popular, how their Puritan ancestors were hated and misunderstood, that all the world loves to revile us Americans but longs to be here, that we are still a city on a hill and have to set a good example. I tell them about the six foot high blood red letters that greeted me as an eight year old moving to Argentina "Yankee Go Home" and about their grandfather (an immigrant who gave up his inheritance to become a citizen over familial objections)and his lifelong dream and work to share American technology, management techniques, business knowhow and democratic way of life with the uncivilized Third World he had grown up in. They know that they are being raised in God's country and that their responsibilities as Americans are inseparable from their Christian heritage, called to be salt and light in a world sorely in need of it. I lived years abroad amongst more sophisticated and better educated foreigners whose brains and civilization I admired and envied, and whose contempt for our American sense of mission at first embarassed me--was I just a cultural imperialist, an ugly American, the capitalist pig they called us? Eventually I realized that they might have more beautiful buildings, superior art and literature, a richer history, but that that was no substitute for the new and better world we barbarian colonials have built for ourselves. We are barbarians, uncouth, clumsy, ignorant, and would all do well to study the ways of the Old World and the circumstances of the Third World better. But my years abroad were years in exile, and every single day of the last 30 years that I have been back here I have appreciated the freedoms, the opportunities, the energies, the communities, the spirit of this home of mine. People want in. It's true that I criticise my country as I criticise family members and friends who fall short of the great things I see them capable of. But God help those outsiders who attack them. As for the self-hatred of the American Left and the chi-chi academic and NY intelligentsia? I lived and studied amongst them and still don't understand their biting the hand that fed them. It is perfectly possible to call for reform and improvement of this beloved country of ours without hating it. If my kid sloughs off and gets a B on a test, I chew them out. If my country tolerates insider traders and corrupt politicians, I will holler about it. But I will not ever stop loving and revering our history, our freedoms, our traditions, the light we are to the rest of the world. And all that is best about our country comes from the faith of our fathers. To take the faith out of this nation is to rip its heart out. I'm a crank and verbose, but I still teach Sunday school every week and know that it is (after caring for my family) the most important work I do. I am a boring and conservative Christian mommy, a fervent patriot. But I am not a fascist or an abortion clinic bomber or book burner or totalitarian monster. Retriever - Deus Vult - you revealed the secret password! Loose lips sink ships. Now we need a new password. Still, good to know you're on the right side.
x/x retriever:
I also lived in Argentina. In Buenos Aires, in an apartment at the corner of Posadas and Callao. I know what it means to live in a society that for the most part shares the amoral familist values of a Ligurian peasant, and how inappropriate those are in a modern industrial society built on a foundation of trust. So I fly the Stars and Strips above the bay window outside our living room. Actually, on a related topic, I am just off to go look up some more stuff on the Knights Templar, particular heroes of mine. Perhaps you have already posted some stuff on them, but they are my idea of cool Christian soldiers! Used to daydream as a kid about being one of them or in the French Foreign Legion...Wrong gender...but my Sunday school kids get to reenact a lot of cool Biblical battles with great sound effects!
Preparing them to do battle with the principalities and powers...DUDAH! DUDAH! Atheists beware! Read "Jerusalem" by Cecelia Holland. Same time frame but much better than "Kingdom of Heaven."
