Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

How much can you really learn about a country from visiting it? Not as much as people think.
From the article: "Or they go to Amsterdam and come back wishing that the U.S. was more bike-friendly." After visiting Amsterdam, perhaps the same folks might want to visit Lubbock or Odessa to see if their bikerism generalizes to the American West. Lubbock or Odessa? Both would be heaven for bike riders in comparison to Houston or Dallas.
Actually, lots of us like biking in Texas' more open spaces (we caught the bug from Lance Armstrong). But I ain't riding 3 miles in August to the H-E-B for groceries.
The ATF's ban on bump stocks has been overturned by SCOYUS and in their ruling declared that the ATF had exceeded their authority by creating that ban. The real purpose of the ban was to intimidate and harass law abiding gun owners. It had nothing to do with safety, gun violence or common sense. It was simply one more unconstitutional step the left took to subvert the constitution.
The supposed reason for banning the bump stocks is the Las Vegas shooting. Ask yourself what you know about that incident. You don't really know much and most of what was released to the public was inaccurate. For example; Audio of the shooting clearly demonstrates that there was more than one shooter. The whole story is full of holes. Pictures of the room in the hotel show few spent rounds lying about, where did these shell casings go? There "could" be a reasonable explanation but you don't know it because almost everything is still shrouded in secrecy. Why? I could understand not releasing the facts and evidence early on in an investigation but years later and the public are still in the dark about what happened. Why? What purpose does it serve? Compare that with the latest story about the man arrested in NY with weapons and an intent to commit terrorism. The TV shows pictures of his weapons, arrest pictures and background on the man himself. Compare it with the raid on Mar a lago. Pictures of the classified documents lying around... Oh yeah that was a setup. They went to extreme efforts to have those pictures to show you but it was all a lie by your government. But nothing about the Las Vegas shooting, Why? I'm not trying to create some fantastic conspiracy theory about the Las Vegas shooting but apparently the police and FBI are. There is something/a lot to hide and that is why we need to know what really happened. But then this shooting was used to fascisticly steal American's constitutional rights and you begin to wonder if the secrecy and the fascism are related. People need to educate themselves on immigration. There isn't any economic social or environmental reason for the amount and type of immigration we have. Matthews article about the benefits of immigration it's just wishful thinking. There's very little if any economic benefit from immigration overall because what little economic benefit there is has been shown to be captured almost entirely by the immigrants and those people that hire them. At the same time passing on all of the social economic environmental burdens to the poor communities. Do you want more information check out the studies performed by Harvard professor George borjas who has made his life's work the study of Labor and immigration.
NATO has just made a decision to put their nuclear capable F35's into bunkers that would protect them from nuclear bombs. Poland has just advised their citizens to leave Russia and not go to Russia.
I a totally unrelated event the House of Representatives voted Friday to expand the draft laws making registration automatic to make sure the draft pool is large enough... for what? Putin just sits there calmly watching NATO and the entire Western world self destruct while the flag of insanity flutters overhead in the breeze for an entire month.
It's pointless. Most of them would "accidentally" get pregnant beforehand.
I support immigration that is legal and limited. What we have now is a free-for-all.

The article made the good point that the peaceful intentions of the people of China were not necessarily the same as the intentions of the people who run China. It refers to Goering's point that Nazi Germany did not go to war because the German people demanded it. The article makes the point that tourism is not a good way to learn about a country. Tourism is a quick view. Moreover, most tourists do not speak the language of the country they are visiting, so are unable find out what is going on below the surface. I am reminded of a trip that Burlington Mayor Bernie Sanders made to Cuba. He returned to the US, gushing that the Cuban people "had an almost religious affection for him [Fidel]." Did Bernie really believe that Cubans would give an honest opinion to him when a government minder was doing the translating for Bernie? After having worked in Latin America, my subsequent visits to Latin America were not about seeing the famous sites, but about visiting friends. And making new friends. Along the way, the stories I heard informed me that the "progressive" narrative on Latin America was, to say the least, simplistic and ill-informed. You're not going to get a bunch of effeminate soy-boys to fight your globalist wars, especially for a country and culture that openly despises the White variety.

From the article: "..I am often surprised by some of the straightforward things they don’t know how to do. Like how to pull a wagon around a corner, hold a shovel, climb over a gate, make a braid, or tie a knot." My volunteer group has an annual National Night Out event on the patio of a local library. Our biggest hit is a marshmallow roast; at least half the kids participating have never done this before. "It is hard" - Tom Brady gives the advice EVERYONE needs in epic Hall of Fame speech - Video
