Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. QUOTE: The world does not need is an American administration that embarrasses itself at every opportunity. True. Fortunately, Trump is no longer president. Global confidence in Biden is much higher than it was for Trump. Global confidence was much higher for Obama, as well. Yeah Trump was horrible. Helped negotiate the Abraham Accords WHILE fighting off a FBI coup. Worked to boost the American economy in the face of a hostile press AND half his party. Kept Putin in his own borders and kept the price of natural gas low(ish) in Europe while pressuring NATO leaders to pick up their TREATY OBLIGATION to pay, AND working to establish border security.
All of that in the face of a hostile press. Meanwhile the Biden administration, well liked around the world, has a compliant, even activist press, has done things to make the war in Ukraine possible (basically raised the value of natural gas), has pissed off long time allies Saudi Arabia (whether we SHOULD have been allies with them is a reasonable question, but now is not the time to be pissing off a minor source of fuel for the US and a MAJOR source of fuel for Europe). They've created a massive crisis on the border that is all but ignored by the press, they've wrecked the American economy even further and they'r'e sowing the seeds of racial and class hatred. Yeah, good thing Trump isn't in office any more, those mean tweets were *awful*. I don't give a damn what "the world" needs. Our Nation--the United States of America--doesn't need an Administration that embarrasses itself (us) at every opportunity.
Meanwhile, our enemies (out there in "the world") laugh. I agree with you, not the other guy.
As for children being judged by their IQ and may suffer in life. Some of us start off kind of slow depending on our personalities and our environment and really blossom later as we age. I also know a couple of so called geniuses that have failed miserably in life and just can't function in the so called real world when no one is praising them continually. When I want to judge a president, I always ask people who know only what a few biased people say about him. The people who actually experience his “governance” are so unreliable.
Our government is tasked with protecting our rights and Biden has spent his entire time in office undermining them. Zach is illustrating the entire political philosophy of the left. Accuse the other side of what they themselves are doing. When The Dems say that voting for Republicans will bring you an authoritarian government what they are accusing the Republicans of is exactly what they themselves intend to do. Beware of what the Dems are telling you in their lying claims about the Republicans.
You’re such a bore. The same mindset had a huge crush on all the worlds authoritarians. In the beginning they all loved themselves some Hitler, Stalin, Mao. The freaks in New York were just smitten with Castro. The only thing your stupid poll shows is that authoritarians love authoritarians.
Have you gotten sufficient attention today? William O. B'Livion: Yeah Trump was horrible.
True enough, but the issue raised in the original post was global confidence in the president. Hairless Joe: When I want to judge a president, I always ask people who know only what a few biased people say about him. The topic was global confidence in the U.S. president. This is important in terms of building strong alliances necessary to contain aggression and to support international trade. mudbug: Our government is tasked with protecting our rights and Biden has spent his entire time in office undermining them. OneGuy: Accuse the other side of what they themselves are doing. They say after the sedition of J6. B. Hammer: The only thing your stupid poll shows is that authoritarians love authoritarians. So, the public of the UK, Germany, Japan, Poland are all authoritarians. "They say after the sedition of J6."
LOL You are the gift that keeps giving. Everyone knows there was no "sedition" on J6 but just a constitutional gathering of citizens that the planted FBI agents forced into entering the capitol and the compliant capitol police who allowed them in topped off with Antifa and BLM in black block to commit crimes which were blamed on innocent protestors. The J6 kangaroo courts are the shame of our nation and those responsible for that unconstitutional "lawfare" should go to jail. The REAL insurrection happened at 3:30 in the morning on Nove 4th 2020. The truth is coming and hopefully people will wake up before the communist left takeover is complete. Yes! That is "lawfare". I was 3000 miles away and only vaguely aware that there was a rally in DC and if they charged me with the exact same thing I too would plead guilty. That is because they give you a choice of years and years in jail OR if you plead to something you didn't do you get a lesser jail sentence. The "treason" is on the part of the DOJ lawyers.
Make no mistake the truth will come out. Undoubtedly not soon enough to prevent innocent people from jail time but eventually some honest researcher will write a book explaining how the DOJ was weaponized by the radical left to destroy the right. The stories will be told. Grandmothers who did nothing more than enter the building after being welcomed in by the Capitol police. Protestors who did indeed make it into the House Chambers unobstructed by the police. People who were beat within an inch of their life by the police. And then the murderer who shot Ashli Babbit (say her name) and got away with and there wasn't even an investigation. The truth will come out about what our government did under the Democrat communists. OneGuy: I was 3000 miles away and only vaguely aware that there was a rally in DC and if they charged me with the exact same thing I too would plead guilty.
A coward of your convictions. Let's look at a case: Guy Reffitt took onto the Capitol grounds a pistol, flex cuffs, helmet, and body armor. He attempted to storm the Capitol, but was held back when he was hit with pepper spray. He later threatened his own children if they turned him into the police. After a trial based on evidence and law, a jury unanimously agreed as to his guilt. How did you think it worked?

Is IQ a load of BS?
No. Not at all, but people who wish to elevate the stupid over the intelligent would like us to believe it is. ccoffer: No. Not at all, but people who wish to elevate the stupid over the intelligent would like us to believe it is.
The problem is calling it an "intelligence quotient". As IQ can be raised through learning, as IQ has increased over time in developed countries, and as IQ appears to be sensitive to culture of origin, that would indicate that it is not an accurate measure of innate intelligence. QUOTE: As IQ can be raised through learning, As near as I can tell, every attempt to increase IQ after the age of 4 is pretty much a failure, and certainly after age 20. Maybe a point or two, but that's hardly worth the effort. IQ is probably like most other physical characteristics, there is a genetic maximum, and then environment subtracts from that. Diet, early intellectual environment (parents talking to you, playing certain kinds of games etc.). This is why you see an increase in IQ in developing countries--they amount and quality of food goes up for a while (quality as in "provides the sort of nutrients a young brain needs to grow). You also see (generally) height increasing in these countries for the same reason. And you see (some) parents in these countries emphasize education at younger ages. Note that this is different than scoring well on any given IQ test. William O. B'Livion: s near as I can tell, every attempt to increase IQ after the age of 4 is pretty much a failure, and certainly after age 20.
So, per your own position, IQ does reflect more than innate ability. William O. B'Livion: IQ is probably like most other physical characteristics, there is a genetic maximum, and then environment subtracts from that. Yet, you point to early intellectual environment which can be additive, not subtractive. William O. B'Livion: Note that this is different than scoring well on any given IQ test. That's a bit unclear. The question is how well an IQ test reflects innate intelligence, or even if intelligence is a single factor. Was Louis Armstrong a genius? Would he necessarily have tested as a genius on IQ tests? If you look deep what the article was really about was equity. YOU must be a racist if you dare notice that some races have low IQs. This was a hit piece filled with BS and very little high IQ thought.
JustMe: YOU must be a racist if you dare notice that some races have low IQs.
Some human populations do have lower IQ test results. The question is how much this reflects innate ability, and how much reflects the environment and limitations of the test itself. JustMe: This was a hit piece filled with BS and very little high IQ thought. And yet, you haven't addressed the primary thrust of the article, that intelligence is multivarious and not subject to simple linear testing. As William O. B'Livion noted, IQ can be raised by intellectual stimulation in childhood. Also, IQ has increased over time, far too quickly to be explained by genetic evolution. And measurements of IQ appear to be sensitive to culture of origin. "Some human populations do have lower IQ test results. The question is how much this reflects innate ability, and how much reflects the environment and limitations of the test itself."
EXACTLY!!!! SO why play the "racism" card? The answer is simple, the whole intent of the article was to play the racism card. JustMe: The answer is simple, the whole intent of the article was to play the racism card.
The article is about the limitations of IQ tests and has little to say about race, but it does note the "Nazis used versions of these tests to 'prove' that certain ethnicities were subhuman," which is true. re Elon Musk To Fire Half Of Twitter Today
It's going to be interesting to see if Musk can make Twitter profitable enough to justify the purchase price. [quote]It is simply a measure of how a person performs on a narrow set of questions compared to other people.[quote]
When someone puts lies like this at the top of an article I don't bother to read the rest. There is a very high correlation between how one individual will do on various sets of "narrow questions". I do regret that rather than dig into the reasons why African Americans and Latinos score so low on IQ tests, that the white liberals blame the test and the racists blame the race, but that is consistent with the pathologies inherent in each group. William O. B'Livion: There is a very high correlation between how one individual will do on various sets of "narrow questions" {compared to other people}.
Perhaps you had a point, but you posted what is, at best, a tautology. William O. B'Livion: I do regret that rather than dig into the reasons why African Americans and Latinos score so low on IQ tests, that the white liberals blame the test and the racists blame the race, but that is consistent with the pathologies inherent in each group. The average American in 1950 would be considered intellectually "dull" compared to modern Americans. Were they "pathological"? The average American in 1950 would be considered intellectually "dull" compared to modern Americans. Were they "pathological"?
Why do you say that? What is your proof? Or is this just another thing you threw out because of your neurotic need to oppose every argument, no matter what it is? RebeccaH: Why do you say that? What is your proof?
It's called the Flynn Effect. Flynn showed that if you were to use today's tests on people from decades past, they would score lower on average. The effect is about 3 IQ points per decade, and has occurred in both developed and developing countries. So, between 1950 and 2000, that's about 15 IQ points, which would mean the average person would be consider intellectually "dull" compared to a modern person. The seminal paper is Flynn, The mean IQ of Americans: Massive gains 1932 to 1978, Psychological Bulletin 1984. Here's the Wikipedia entry: Flynn Effect
Re "Even Liberals Should Be Skeptical..." Once again, they are not "liberals". They are Leftists, but (characteristically) will not admit it. Along with countless other techniques, Leftists seek influence and control by redefining words in a way intended to be misleading.
Stop using the language of the Left. Eight dollars? But, but, but, muh speshul blue check?
Just reading about a Twit birdbrain hive comrade crying over the firings. Overgrown juveniles with no experience outside of video games and robot enforced comfort control the fate of the world. WEF technocratic huckster Elon is feeling a little light in the wallet after overpaying and the real powers have already let him know that free speech is not on the menu. Eight Cents Fanzine: Eight dollars? But, but, but, muh speshul blue check?
Twitter's main product is an environment conducive for users and advertisers. Trolling, hate speech, spam, bots, etc., corrode the environment, reducing its value for users and advertisers. Twitter has the right to create whatever environment the Chief Twit wants, but to avoid Twitter devolving into “a free-for-all hellscape” requires moderation. The blue check is an important mechanism for reducing trolling. It prevents someone from pretending to be someone else, especially famous people. In addition, famous people draw eyes to Twitter, so you want to encourage them to continue posting for free. Charging them when they are providing free content is counterproductive. There is only speech... hate speech is in the eye of the beholder. That is what makes any government institution dangerous is its need to label any speech it dislikes as hate speech and then attempt to punish the speechmaker.
That is what makes the CDC, FDA, NIH, and teachers unions dangerous. It is what makes the DHS, FBI, and DOJ dangerous. It is what makes the J6 committee dangerous. They each and all attempt to suppress any and all dissent and punish any and all who do dissent. They are the authoritarians. They promote a BBB/NWO. You will own nothing and be happy. And like the MSNBC democrat, they project that authoritarianism onto others. indyjonesouthere: There is only speech... hate speech is in the eye of the beholder. That is what makes any government institution dangerous is its need to label any speech it dislikes as hate speech and then attempt to punish the speechmaker.
This discussion concerns Twitter, not the government. Most people don't want to frequent a website that is inundated with spambots and Nazis. Certainly, most advertisers don't want their ads appearing next to posts with n-word this and n-word that. Unfortunately, we are finding out that these various government institutions are now affecting what is considered hate speech and disinformation speech on these social media sites. They are being pressured to comply with the government demands on regulation of speech and are even making portals for the government to monitor online speech. That is creeping authoritarianism by government institution.
indyjonesouthere: Unfortunately, we are finding out that these various government institutions are now affecting what is considered hate speech and disinformation speech on these social media sites.
The government has the right to put out information or to correct misinformation. Twitter doesn't have to listen. indyjonesouthere: are even making portals for the government to monitor online speech. It's called logging on to Twitter. The government is allowed to do that too. Geez. Returning to the original point, Twitter's main product is an environment conducive for users and advertisers. Most people and businesses don't want to participate in “a free-for-all hellscape”. Government has been putting out misinformation through every one of these agencies as it applies to their Covid information, their Russia, Russia, Russia information and their denial of election fraud.

Red China aka Commie China WANTS the world to call the Republic of China "Taiwan". Taiwan is the island, Taibei is the capital city of The Republic of China. IMO, it is a slight to the people on the mainland to call the government in Beijing ""The Peoples Republic of China". I will not comply with Red China "Newspeak".
The IQ argument reminds me of the child my son-in-law's brother adopted from Russia (one of the last Russian adoptions before Putin outlawed it). The boy had languished in a Russian orphanage for his first nine months, totally neglected and developmentally delayed because of that. You would never know it if you could meet him today, a smart, sweet young man who likes cars and airplanes and has aspirations to be an engineer.
As one of my early childhood professors used to say all the time "There is nature and nurture and both play into the life of a child." Glad he is on his way to a good life.
Apparently, some commenters feel it is worth engaging in the discussion. We do try to stay on topic and make use of discussion threads.
Cut him a break. He is, with his constant know-it-all persona, the Cliff Clavin of Maggies. If you keep your sense of humor when reading him, he is quite amusing. Just like poor 'ol Cliff was on Cheers. Never wrong, always all-knowing, on every topic under the sun.
