Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The Minneapolis police officers story is a result of the effort to convince us that the preferred Geroge Floyd story was true. It fit a narrative, it provided an excuse for criminal rioting and it continues the sad lies about how badly blacks are treated by the police. Geroge Floyd died from a self administered overdose and not from being restrained. Derek Chauvin didn't kill him and charging him and convicting him was a terrible injustice and should be overturned. It is no different from charging those border patrol agents on horseback with whipping the illegals. The authorities know it is untrue but proceeded to punish our LEOs anyway and their will be a price to pay for that malpractice.

That does not sound like Jill Biden apologizing. That sounds like Bob Dole apologizing. Actually. Jill, excuse me, Dr. Jill Biden, sent her press secretary Michael LaRosa, out to apologize for her. She also doesn’t know how to pronounce bodegas.
I’ll also note that she was giving the speech to UnidosUS, formerly National Council of La Raza (NCLR). La Raza: The Race. La Raza is about as bad as BLM. Their advocacy use to (it probably still does, I’m not going to waste my time deep diving their mission statement) include returning the lands conquered by America during the Mexican-American war, which we won fair and square and paid for - I am being somewhat sarcastic. We pushed Mexico into that war; probably not a just war. re Ban air-conditioning?
Hey . . . . if you are going to ban food production to save the planet, why not a/c as well? I'd like to see a/c banned merely for the entertainment value of watching all the whining, weeping, and wailing. Can you imagine the mass exodus and the crash in property values in the sunbelt? And let's set a limit on winter heating at 60 as well for good measure. Data centers could be reclassified as "cold storage" and could thus be exempt. Taylor Lorenz, the journo who advocated the banning of air conditioning, works for the WaPo. Does Taylor Lorenz live and work in buildings without air conditioning in the Washington DC area? I very much doubt it.
At the same time, AC can be overdone. I went to a book club meeting at a local public library last night, and felt RELIEF to get out into the 95-100 degree heat after the cold AC at the library. The Houston area has some of the worst pollen-related allergy conditions in the country, and for urban folk that move in and out of super-chilled climate-control into 100°F / 98% humidity outdoors, multiple times daily, the additional ambient air swings can really make for some chronic sinus misery.
If they were really serious about energy conservation, they would make office and commercial buildings set their temperatures to 80°F, which is completely comfortable for most everyone. I think that part of the problem, and I hesitate to say this, is that obese people tend to be very, very sensitive about anything that might make them sweat - and there are a lot of them in Texas. We have friends that dial their thermostats down below 70° in the summertime, and up to 75+° in the wintertime, and I think they're plain nuts. We place a big unacknowledged premium on our creature comforts when we really would be a lot better off if we de-prioritized them a little. Agree that 80 degrees is comfortable. Interesting point about obese people and air conditioning.
One wonders if Zachriel forgoes air conditioning as a gesture towards saving the planet?
feeblemind: One wonders if Zachriel forgoes air conditioning as a gesture towards saving the planet?
Humans can't solve the climate problem by adjusting the thermostat. Billions of people live in societies that are rapidly industrializing, including not just air conditioning in hot climates, but acquiring cars, computers, and other manufactured goods. People have a right to the benefits of modernity. Not only is economic prosperity desirable, but continued economic growth is essential to developing and implementing the technological changes required to confront the climate problem. Only 20 counties will determine the outcome of the midterms? Well that certainly narrows the focus of the Democratic fraud efforts doesn't it? Odd that we're talking about Philadelphia, Detroit, the Southwest, and Atlanta again, though.
209,000 fraudulent votes harvested by mules in Philly.
226,000 fraudulent votes harvested by mules in Detroit. 207,000 fraudulent votes harvested by mules in Phoenix. 92,000 fraudulent votes harvested by mules in Atlanta. In all of these we have video, cell phone tracking, we know the names of the mules, the names of the contacts in NGOs who provided the fraudulent votes to the mules. And in some cases the names of prominent politicians directly involved in the fraud. What we don't have is a single DA or grand jury indicting a single individual in this massive organized criminal act. Why? Uh, because that's not true? You might start with questioning your sources when everyone seems to be ignoring what seems obvious to you rather than leap to the conclusion that thousands of DA's and prosecutors are being flat dishonest.
Thousands of DA’s? Regardless of whether the numbers are true, wouldn’t it take only 4 dishonest DA’s?
Just as one example of a dishonest DA: Would you trust the DA in New York City, if you had to defend your life against a hooligan? B. Hammer: Just as one example of a dishonest DA: Would you trust the DA in New York City, if you had to defend your life against a hooligan?
New York City wasn't mentioned. The claim would include state prosecutors and police investigators in Georgia and Arizona. In particular, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation looked at the claims about "Mules," and rejected them as lacking probable cause of a crime.

So it's been awhile since the Uvalde shooter Salvador Ramos shot up the Robb Elementary School killing children and teachers. But still no word on where this kid got the thousands of dollars to but the guns and gear to commit this crime. Something stinks here. If it was easily explainable you would think we would know by now. This issue was raised the same day as the shooting and it is a significant part of the story. If it can't be explained then it implies this shooting involves someone else who hasn't been named yet. Someone provided the money for those guns. Who? Was it another FBI sting gone bad?
He wasn't attending school and lived with various family members, i.e. had essentially no living expenses, and worked at several fast food jobs through the years.
From Neo who summarized Texas DPS head Steve McCraw's testimony to a Texas Senate Committee here. The perp had no trouble getting the money. It came from his fast-food job, and he had no rent or other expenses of the usual sort. He had stopped attending high school in his senior year and worked enough hours to save enough in a bank account (held jointly with his grandmother). He made many purchases online when he was seventeen – not of weapons but of accessories for the weapons he was planning to buy – and then after his 18th birthday he made the purchase of the items (including the firearms) that he was only able to buy after turning eighteen. Links to more of her posts on Uvalde here That could be true. About $9,000 worth of guns, ammo and gear. And then there is his truck. So the kid must have been working overtime to buy all this stuff and live his life too. Seems too pat to me. I'm still suspicious. It wouldn't be the first time misinformation is put out there to stifle investigation.
The New Neo has done an excellent job of suspending rushes to judgment before the facts are in, and it's really commendable. Her latest post links to the after action report that was composed soon after the incident by the group ALERRT, and brings quite a bit of detail into the picture, including a fleshed out timeline (but even it is by no means complete). It's worth reading the report - it may be found here:

Sad. I worked in Chile in the '90's and it was a great place to be. Spectacular country from the Andes to the ocean. Gracious people and the business environment was finally stable. But the Allende sympathizers are back and it looks very bad for Chile. I fear for my friends. Unprepared for this from Epstein, a remarkable writer. He says his most "condolenscing" letter was from editor of commentary: that nothing worse than this will ever happen in his life. "Ban air-conditioning?"
I suppose that's one way to destroy Florida. Or Texas, for that matter. It would close down D.C. for half the year. Win, Win, Win.
