We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I was able to hear him preach live once a number of years ago. I had gone into a Christian coffee shop to get some coffee and a snack, and saw a handwritten announcement saying he was going to be preaching that evening at the small Bible church the coffee shop was affiliated with. I asked, "is this real?" and was assured it was. I went that evening and Sproul was indeed preaching, and the church was packed--the word had clearly gotten out. The church had evidently been using his materials for quite some time, and when Sproul went on vacation here, on the spur of the moment he offered to preach. Anyway, he preached extemporaneously from Romans for an hour (no notes) while drinking a Diet Coke. Quite impressive. A true giant.
Had not heard of him before but looked him up on Wikipedia, very interesting stuff — I’m predisposed to like him just from knowing he was part of a breakaway movement from PCUSA. I’ll check this out, thanks.
He's definitely worth listening to. I would also mention he was the editor in chief for the Reformation Study Bible (ESV or NKJV with study notes from a Reformed perspective). Reformed Anglican Bible scholar Jim Packer (J.I. Packer) was also involved in that.
