Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The trailer should show some great highlights from the movie. Something to get you interested in seeing it. All I saw was an insane woman screeching. Most of us know this type of person and avoid them like the plague. I can only conclude that someone screwed up badly picking the scenes for the trailer Or the movie really is as bad as the trailer paints it.
Reasonable comment. Could have been a better choice of scenes for the trailer. The movie is about how to remove anxiety from our lives. This movie is really a gem of wisdom and us fun too
I have a stupid question. What is Vudu, Prime, Fandango, and AppleTV and how do you access them? I have used fandango in the past to see what is at the movie theater. Are they now putting shows on TV? I am somewhat familiar with Showtime, it is an expensive cable channel that show movies I would probably never pay to see and you have no choice what they show and it costs a lot. Is that what Vudu, Prime, Fandango, and AppleTV is? I hear people talk about TV shows like game of thrones but I don't know what they are having never seen it. I do know it is a serial and I'm not a fan of serials for many reasons. Kind of like watching a soap opera where the story never ends and it never gets interesting but always promises that next week you will actually get to see what we have been promising for the last few years. I prefer a show that begins and ends while I'm watching. TV has become a vast wasteland that every year seems to try to outdo last years vast wasteland. About the only show on TV today that I enjoy is Seal Team and lately they have decided to make that unwatchable as it is all about the actors home life and the actual action scenes diminish to next to nothing.
Anyway being the worlds most notable cheap skate I won't pay for cable I won't watch and don't really want to pay $3.99 for a movie I will wish I never saw. But my question is real, what is VUDU and how do I get it and how do I know if I want to get it and does it show anything I want or only what the Hollywood elite think is good? You really don't have to worry about any of those things. If you have a tablet or something you watch movies on all you have to do is search the name of the movie and you're going to get watch options in the results. I don't have a TV or cable or anything either but I do like to watch movies sometimes. They're like a half a dozen or more options. I generally go with Amazon Prime or Google. You'll have to install whatever viewer they use but you'll be guided through the set up. I've been watching old Sci-Fi movies lately. I just saw George Lucas's first movie THX 1138 it's pretty good. A much creepier version of Logan's Run
OK. SO Amazon Prime on my laptop, right? I go to Amazon and download their viewer and install it, right? Then I name a movie I want to watch and it plays. Do they bill me or charge it to my card? Do they have all the movies including current? (Not necessarily brand new as I assume their is a delay before they are available.) Is there a fee, that is if I went through the steps and watched one movie do I pay every month even though I'm not watching anything? I travel (RV) often and typically don't have phone or wifi service for a week or so, can I download the movies to watch later?
I went to Amazon prime and there doesn't seem to be any option to explore what it involves. The only option was the 'free' one month trial. I want to know how to do it, what it costs and what is available. But this looks more like buying a timeshare where you don't get to know anything until you sign up. My gut tells me that the only reason they have for not being more informative is that you aren't going to like what you sign up for. I didn't click to get my 'free' one month option because I suspect that the first thing they do is collect all your personal information which I object to.
I simply want to be able to turn on the TV in the evening and watch something interesting. There is literally diddly squat on TV. I admit that I have the minimal cable option but that is because I don't like spending my money unless I feel that I get value for it. I haven't watch CBS, NBC or ABC for years (except Seal Team) as they have nothing worth watching. About the only channels I watch are the HGTV type shows and lately they are becoming propagandistic. I could, of course simply stop watching TV but honestly I would enjoy a couple of good shows to watch in the evening. There is Netflix. I don't know anything about how to watch that either but what little I do know about it is that every movie I saw offered didn't appeal to me. One of the biggest problems with any new tech things is that when you research them there is very little information. It would appear that anyone/everyone who it appeals to already know the basics and they only want to know how to sign up. I'm thinking Amazon prime has a monthly fee.
How do you get Netflix on TV? Do you have to have a new TV or can older TVs get it too? Epix now will give you a month of free movies with any delivery order from Domino's Pizza.
Well none of this has helped me in anyway. I have no idea what alternatives are available or how to learn about them. Amazon Prime is a good example of the problem. It appears that you have to sign up for it to find out what is in it. I am suspicious that they offer very little and charge a lot. But furthermore I have no good idea how to get it to my TV. Do I call my cable company and say sign me up for prime and they give me the secret channel? Or is it only available on my laptop which is too small and limited for me to watch like a TV. As for Netflix I did rent a DVD from their "red box" once but that was probably 10-12 years ago. How does Netflix get to my TV and why isn't it obvious. Let me define obvious; Judge Judy is on at 4PM on channel 9. That's pretty simple. What channel is netflix on? Again do I call my cable company. (I called once for a problem and it was clearly answered in India and I have no clue what the man was saying.)
I'm not, and at these comments no one else is, going to give you instruction specific to your situation. You'll have to do real homework, but it isn't hard. 1) read the many articles and how tos at this website https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/?tid=2503406&cid&utm_source=iterable&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=1818847
2) go into Best Buy when it's not busy and fuind a helpful sales person 3) buy a ROKU for your TV, or if your TV doesn't have an HDMI input then invest a very few dollars in a new TV ($150 and up, you'll be surprised at what you can get) I do appreciate any information and advice.
I went to the site you showed and here is what I found: I can buy a ROKU device for $80 !! But still no clue what I get with ROKU. Is it the same thing I get on cable? Honestly it seems they intentionally don't tell you so that you are forced to spend the money just to find out that it doesn't offer anything you want. I don't want sports. I don't want Game of Thrones or other soap opera style shows. I don't want Sci Fi, Horror or Vampire movies. Almost all of the movies from the last 10 years or so seem intent on stuffing race, homosexuality or perversion down your throat. I simply want a few shows to watch in the evening that are enjoyable. Again I will say I appreciate the info. It's just at this point I do not think there is anything available that will fit my needs. |
