We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
This is a well-written piece. But as a teacher, there is something that I would like to add. It's been my experience that researchers in "specialized fields" intentionally make their reports as obtuse as possible; because they think that illegibility somehow raises the standard of their work.
For example, although I'm an English teacher, I still consider myself to be capable of understanding and and reflecting on almost any subject. So if the report that I receive is unreadable, that's the fault of the author.
I think that all research reports should be given a readability score of 1 to 10. If it scores lower than a 7, it should be sent back and rewritten.
All too often, these reports are written by intellectual frauds who are trying to hide behind the ivory tower.
"Intellectual frauds" Funny you should bring up this subject. Since 1999 when thousands of women and minorities have been put into teaching jobs without being the best qualified we have had a diminished quality of education and thus collective information. You an't have it both ways. You can't use university teaching positions to reward young, obedient, single moms and expect them to spend their time outside of the classroom doing the heavy lifting of good and continued scholarship. The decline in well written, well reasoned articles in the Chronicle of Higher Education over the past few years is a clear reflection of the steady decline in scholarship at the "feminized" university.
Second: In Seattle the White male attorneys are scared to death of the African American community--they are even more afraid of the women's core leadership group. Therefore, there is no real protection for a white male being abused by a university administration. Without the protection of law we can count on a reduction of standard and a descent into anarchy which is what we are experiencing now.

Five years after getting my degree, I applied to grad school. Part of the process entailed taking the GRE. The Math part was a breeze- not surprising, considering my STEM background. I was having trouble with the reading passages in the Verbal part. I decided to read them as if they were written in Sociology-speak, and to choose the answer written in the most incoherent prose.
As my Verbal-GRE score was slightly above my Verbal-SAT score, I decided that was a successful strategy.
As I was reading this, and thinking the world had gone completely insane, a mockingbird stopped by to bathe in the birdbath. Then I was assured it’s only “Western Civilization” that’s gone insane, not the whole world. That bird was oddly reassuring.
Most likely the far left radicals running the social sciences department at Cambridge were looking for an excuse to get rid of that "malcontent right wing radical homophobic racist transphobic mysogynist" already and themselves started the fire that led to "the outrage" that they then hooked onto as a reason for the firing.
