We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Re: Those Poor, Helpless Indian Savages
Yeah, they could be brutal but weren't they the first ecologists who worshiped nature, efficiently using its gifts?
Except for the ones who ran entire Buffalo herds off a cliff so they could eat a few of them or the ones who set fire to a field to flush out game. But other than that they were cool.
Now, now, you just need to sing "Colors of the Wind."
People Returning To Labor Force In Droves — A Key Step For The Economy
The Labor Force Participation Rate has been relatively flat since early 2016.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics says the labor force participation rate "has shown no clear trend thus far this year".
More magic wand goodness though:
“Manufacturing added 36,000 jobs in June. Durable goods manufacturing accounted for
nearly all of the increase, including job gains in fabricated metal products (+7,000),
computer and electronic products (+5,000), and primary metals (+3,000). Motor vehicles
and parts also added jobs over the month (+12,000), after declining by 8,000 in May.
Over the past year, manufacturing has added 285,000 jobs.“
B. Hammer: Manufacturing added 36,000 jobs in June...
While job creation is related, it is not the statistic under discussion, which is the labor force participation rate.
Handwaving again, kiddiez?
The labor force participation rate edged up by 0.2 percentage point over the month to 62.9 percent.
Better than the rate during the Obama reign of error, kiddiez.
Under President Obama, labor participation hit lows last seen in the late 1970s.
Guess you lose again.
B. Hammer: More magic wand goodness
As for job creation, there is nothing remarkable about the current rate.
It might be remarkable to the 213,000 individuals who now have jobs.
But you kiddiez would know nothing about that since y'all obviously don't have jobs.
Yeah, hard to get 'em back on the job (After they've seen EBT).
BillH: Yeah, hard to get 'em back on the job (After they've seen EBT).
The claim was that people are returning to the labor force in "droves". That claim is not supported by the evidence.
2 : a large number : crowd —usually used in plural especially with in came in droves
The meanings of words, kiddiez, y'all should learn them..
Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 213,000 in June and has grown by 2.4 million over the last 12 months.
The Clattering Soros-Schlansky Robot(s) is stuck in Pedantry Module 2000 overdrive! again, puppies.
Trump: Massive US Spending on NATO 'Not Acceptable' ... Germany is at 1%, the U.S. is at 4%
The U.S. is closer to 3%, and that includes spending outside the NATO theater, such as Pacific defence. NATO allies have already agreed to increase spending to 2% of GDP by 2024 under the Wales Summit Declaration of 2014. Thanks Obama.
Meanwhile, Trump is causing great damage to the Atlantic alliance, the world trade system, putting distance between the U.S. and long-time democratic friends, while cozying up to autocrats such as the leader of Russia's kleptocracy.
2024! That is meaningless. Much like Europe won’t meet their 2050 emissions reduction. Thanks Paris Accord!
Your electrons keep saying Trump is cozying up to Russia. Saying it, doesn’t make it so.
Yes our democratic allies. They only love us when a fellow Marxist in the Whitehouse.
B. Hammer: 2024! That is meaningless.
Handwaving. If the U.S. wants to renegotiate, they should approach their allies in good faith.
B. Hammer: Your electrons keep saying Trump is cozying up to Russia.
Putin's "running his country and at least he's a leader, unlike what we have in this country." Putin, of course, is the autocratic leader of a kleptocracy that murders its political opponents.
B. Hammer: They only love us when a fellow Marxist in the Whitehouse.
Europe is home to some of the most robust markets in the world. They are hardly Marxist.
Zzzz: Europe is home to some of the most robust markets in the world.
Even more reason why they should be paying their fair share for defense.
However, the current ongoing debate on NATO funding is not that. It is not new, either. One of the strongest speeches against NATO was from former Defense Secretary Robert Gates in 2011. He highlighted, almost prophetically, that if NATO leaders failed to immediately increase their funding and improve hardware, retention, and deployment capabilities, future American presidents would find it hard to justify to the electorate why they should pay for rich countries like Germany to have bloated social security programs, and not invest more in their submarine fleet or air force. Incidentally, Germany has only four serviceable Typhoons https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/luftwaffe-has-just-four-combat-ready-eurofighter-typhoons-ld0bz5mtn in the Luftwaffe and has refused to increase its NATO budget.
Christopher B: One of the strongest speeches against NATO was from former Defense Secretary Robert Gates in 2011.
Which led to a NATO commitment to raise defence spending to 2% of GDP on a per country basis by 2024. It is correct to hold the Europeans to this commitment, but it is a serious mistake to threaten lambaste allies or to withdraw from NATO before the commitment date has even been reached.
So what evidence do the kiddiez have that it is a serious mistake to threaten lambaste allies or to withdraw from NATO before the commitment date has even been reached besides your leftist anti-Trump, anti-American talking points?
"long time democratic friends"...Just who gets to vote on EU policies such as immigration? Small wonder countries are revolting on the EU elites and either "exiting" the madness or refusing to obey the madness. Are the muslims or the Russians killing, maiming, and raping the Europeans in this day and age? The European voters are waking up but the European progressives/socialists/Marxists barely have a clue. It would seem the Euro elite and American elite can only babble Russia, Russia, Russia while overlooking the invasion of never do wells.
indyjonesouthere: Just who gets to vote on EU policies such as immigration?
Immigration policy is per the Dublin Regulation, which was agreed to by each member state, plus Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland.
The Dublin regulation covers all the illegals flooding into Europe... that's a real surprise to the Europeans I'll bet. And what do the euro progs do about that illegal immigration that is destroying Europe? Yup, pretty much nothing...they are as useful as Governor Brown or Cuomo. Small wonder euroland is in rebellion by the original inhabitants. EUexit is getting popular...reminds one of the political situation here. Get used to more of it...it's the wave.
Weekly Standard> Trump will never be Reagan
What's truly surprising about this article from the fake-Con NeverTRUMP "Weekly Stoopid", is that its author stopped fellating his boss Cruise Capt. Billy Kristol, long enough to write this piece of garbage!
TRUMP has surpassed Reagan thus far in so many ways, including personal heroism. It only took a few bullets from a Bush Family Stooge to curb Reagan's enthusiasm for conservative governance. Lord knows how many "187" attempts have been tried against TRUMP & Family, yet he keeps on coming, stronger than ever!
Yeah, that Weekly Standard article was .. something else. His entire article came down to ..... POLLS.
That is all you need to know. The very metric that was shown to be utterly useless in 2016... political polling. Tweaked and biased to the point of uselessness.
And yet, here's the WStnd writing that PDJT's chances for reelection are "slightly" better than 50/50.. based on polls. This is taking hackery to a level not worthy of anything outside of a fundraising email. Incredible. They are deluded and really, it is remarkable.
No, he won't, because he has already surpassed Reagan in the short time he's been in office. That's how I see it.
I loved Reagan...but back in the 80s there was a Democrat-controlled Congress he had to work with, which forced him into some positions that I wish he'd never taken.
Trump seems to know exactly how to move the ball forward without giving up ANY of his position at all. NONE. Just wait until a year from now, it will be monumental how much he has accomplished. And I find out more every day...because the press just doesn't report this stuff.
The newest thing I learned (from a commercial of all things) is that Trump signed a law last August that allowed hearing aids for minor hearing loss to be sold over the counter. This is HUGE. It may not seem that way, but if anyone knows the cost of hearing aids...they will understand. The poor could never hope to afford hearing aids sold by audiologists. They were incredibly expensive.
The ones I saw advertised were affordable, paid for in payments, and were rechargeable...so no batteries. This is what the free market does when it is released from over-regulation. And it will only get better and cheaper from here.
I'm sure there are plenty of other laws & regs of which we have not been informed that will transform this nation.
Before you go praising Trump for signing that law allowing OTC sales of hearing aids, you might want to think about the fact that Trump merely signed the law, he didn't write the law. Elizabeth Warren and Chuck Grassley wrote the law. Does this change your mind about the law or change your mind about Elizabeth Warren and Chuck Grassley? If you dig into it, what the law does is it allows the FDA to establish rules and regulations for OTC sales of hearing aids. Prior to this, OTC hearing aids weren't regulated at all. As long as you didn't call them hearing aids - hearing aids being a medical device - but rather "sound enhancement" or "personal amplifier" devices, these devices have been available to hunters at sporting good stores for years. (Much like the "for tobacco use only" smoking paraphernalia you find at certain convenience stores, wink, wink.) But with the advancement of microelectronics, these things have gotten much better and much cheaper and the medical community ain't having none of that. What you think is Trump loosening the regulation of hearing aid sales is really Elizabeth Warren siccing the FDA on the free market. For the children.
I liked Reagan but his work on trade was not equal to the effort Trump is putting into getting the trade on a level playing field. He threatens and establishes tariffs in order to get rid of tariffs and he also gets trade rules relaxed which is mandatory with China. Nafta will disappear but it is used by Mexico and Canada as a funnel to bring trade into their countries by those outside who want tariff free entry into the US. That is unacceptable. Subsidies will also be attacked. Dropping the corporate tax rate in the US also helps US corps compete against the European Vat tax setup. We might finally get job immigration as opposed to job emigration that was so prevalent under previous administrations.
Seriously, Juice Is Not Healthy
You mean compared to the documented anti-cancer properties of the steak diet? O.F.F.S.
So if I drink my high pulp 100% organic orange juice, with my steak, I should be on my way to perfect health?
Who knows? What is known, however, is that the living plant has nothing on a dead animal's seared flesh for an herbivore's health, seriously. Apparently dead animal flesh isn't just next to godliness, it's magic too.
It's a relief to see that something is. Sunday can't come fast enough.
Humans aren't herbivores, or there would be no humans north (or south) of areas where plants grow. Eskimos have survived for centuries with little to no plant based food.
Wrong, and obviously so. We don't compete with lions in Africa either, although that's not my refutation of the error.
Actually, we're both wrong: as all Christian Darwinists know, as descendants of apes, humans are frugivorous and as such, are herbivores in the same way that apes are. Exactly so, in fact.
As an ape, man has none - that's none - of the characteristics of true omnivores and none as well of carnivores.
What you should therefore say is that man is an adaptive omnivore - an "omnivore" only by choice and a rather unhealthy one at that, the Eskimo myth certainly included.
One further correction: By this evidence meat-eating humans are not carnivores. They're necrovores until such time as they stop disguising and flavoring meat and start running around with rabbits they caught in their jaws...

Are you the Hammer of Freedom or the Hammer of Justice? Or both?
Re Article 3 and Supreme Court Judges, it is the one part of the Constitution where our Founders got it wrong. Judge Robert Yates, writing under the nom de guerre of Brutus, who saw with complete clarity the problems with Article III. In Anti-Federalist 78-79, he wrote:
"The judges in England are under the control of the legislature, for they are bound to determine according to the laws passed under them. But the judges under this constitution will control the legislature, for the supreme court are authorised in the last resort, to determine what is the extent of the powers of the Congress. They are to give the constitution an explanation, and there is no power above them to set aside their judgment. The framers of this constitution appear to have followed that of the British, in rendering the judges independent, by granting them their offices during good behavior, without following the constitution of England, in instituting a tribunal in which their errors may be corrected; and without adverting to this, that the judicial under this system have a power which is above the legislative, and which indeed transcends any power before given to a judicial by any free government under heaven."
The one ace that Congress holds is that they can pass legislation in which they mandate that the courts will have no jurisdiction.
That Illinois pension graph looks exactly like the City of Houston's debt graph. Debt caused by pensions.
Things were much better, here in the comments, ten years ago. Just my opinion.
Juice is not healthy. The biggest mistake in the article is that somehow magically sugar causes diabetes. It would be equally correct to declare that breathing causes pneumonia. Diabetes is a genetic condition that you are born with. It is not the same in everyone so it seems to appear or cause problems at different times for various people. Because of this it seems to afflict the diabetic at some point in life and it is not totally illogical to believe something in their environment caused it. After all if you suddenly discover you are diabetic at age 25 and for the first 24 years of your life you saw no symptoms than by golly you "caught" it from something. And since it is an intolerance of sugar/carbs than your sugar consumption must have caused it. If only you had not eaten candy as a child or drunk colas you would never have "caught" diabetes. The MSM and special interest groups make it all worse by muddying the waters with suggestions that fruit juice is bad for you and your children.
