We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I don't care much about steins, and am certainly not going on carnival rides, but Oktoberfest is my favorite variety of beer, so I like this time of year.
It does get worse. When one walks home from the beer park, sometimes many kilometers, people offer you little shots of schnapps along the way. Many, many, little shots. One loses count fairly quickly.

Was at the 1980 Oktoberfest. It's basically a bunch of midway (carnival) rides with huge beer tents throughout. And the beer only came in liter steins (roughly 3 bottles). About 10 of us went together from the hostel/cheap hotel I was staying at. We never did the rides, just went from beer tent to beer tent. After about the 3rd tent we started to notice our group of 10 getting smaller. At the 6th tent it was me who couldn't find the group. I had to get the police to get me a cab to take me back to the hotel as I had no idea where it was. But at least that way I missed the shots of schnapps along the way. :)
I'm a light drinker and an early riser so saw the hordes of highly efficient cleaners early morning at Oktoberfest 2014. Big motorized street sweepers, fire hoses, guys with brooms and scoops, women with soap water and brushes, you name it.
I was fortunate to attend an Oktoberfest once with a German Army officer (a local Bavarian). He taught me to buy a giant stein of beer and gently nurse that baby down over an extended period while the other Canadians I was with freely guzzled away.
