We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Due to global cooling, there will be a frost tonight in New England. Please, people, drive more. I am boating this weekend, planned for shorts and t-shirt weather but I will consume plenty of fossil fuels to get to my boat, and on the boat. Loading with 50 gallons. Just doing my part to warm this frigid planet.
Unrelated, this: Ted Cruz made a campaign stop in Beaumont, TX on Tuesday, May 19. He was asked repeatedly by Kevin Steele from KMBT-TV about the issue of gay marriage, to which Cruz responds by turning the tables. The man is too smart to be president and conveys too much aggression, too little seduction.
To dominate, Conservatives need good cheer and optimism, a strong Libertarian/freedom streak, and less hawkishness about places that Americans do not give a damn about. To my Repub friends: Americans do not give a darn about Ukraine, Syria, Somalia, Guatemala, Mexico, etc. as long as you keep those people out of the USA. Americans do not want to run the world and are sick of the Middle East insanity. End of rant. Gone Fishin with my good gal. Newport this summer, as it happens.
Happy Decoration Day to all, with thanks to all American armed forces over the years.
It's about time somebody ask questions of reporters. By not doing that, we have allowed them to frame all the debates and the one who frames the debate is a leg up on winning it.
I thought that was a great interview, and I don't think he came across as too aggressive. That is what many people WANT in a presidential candidate - someone who will stand up to the press and their ricidulous 'gotcha' questions and will get their positions past the Katie Couric's and George Stepahnopolouses of the press and directly to the American people.
I find him refreshing, smart and unflappable. Which is sorely needed in the White House.
Keep turning the tables on them, Senator Cruz. Just like Carly Fiorina managed to do on the issue of abortion and titles vs. accomplishments. I am tired of conservative candidates walking on eggshells around the press.
Walking on eggshells is what gave us McCain and Romney. We need a tougher candidate who is not afraid to stand up for his convictions and explain them to the press and to the public.
Americans need and respect a fighter. Cruz responded thoughtfully and confidently to some backwater reporter driving for a gotcha moment.
The country is polarized - get used to it. This is a major cultural moment and we are called to fight for our civilization, our government, and our values.
Now is not the time to be the summer solder and the sunshine patriot.
Newsjunkie, I think you might have a point there: "The man is too smart to be president and conveys too much aggression."
Yes, he comes across as smart and throwing the question back at the gotcha reporter is aggressive.
But, those who would be turned off by that most likely weren't going to vote for anyone with a R after their name anyway.
So, why not be smart and be aggressive - it will appeal to a lot of voters. Hopefully, it will get more people to the polls to vote for someone with convictions instead of a spineless wimp.
In reply to The News Junkie who said: "....conveys too much aggression, too little seduction."
Yeah, you are so right. The DIABLO Establishment Republicans need to show proper subservience to their betters, the Demoncrats and play nice. You know, like Boehner and McConnell who sold out their constituents in a heartbeat were just being nice.
Too many times, when the candidates are asked questions, my first thought is I wonder what Ted Cruz would say. Second is I wonder what Scott Walker would say. And that says something about who I would listen to and respect and, possibly, vote for.
Well, he could use a little of the Newt Gingrich fervor - he comes across a little too cool. When Newt goes gonzo on the media, I cheer - he just manages to tap into that "pissed-off" part of me that wishes I had that opportunity to respond the same way.
I realize that he is working hard to be "non-angry" - but, a LITTLE pissed-off snark would be nice.
