We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
1. Followed the thread on the CT Pratt & Whitney article. The union and P&W had a job security clause, poorly worded but there. The courts have enforced the contract. P&W should have moved rather than sign that contract, I'd say. And I bet they'll never buy that clause again.
2. US becoming like Europe -- and the people who demanded it are finding they hate it. Well, we'da told them that.
3. Arizona's immigration law: the feds (we see this on both Dem and Repub) are forgetting that the states are not subordinates of the federal government, they are members of the Union represented by the federal government. In this case, a state is demanding to fulfill its duty to its people and to the Union as a whole -- and the federal government thinks it has authority to say no. This is the kind of thing the Senate, as the committee of the states, is supposed to stop. So is the EPA's CO2 finding, which is false to fact.
Fine, you think obama is wise. What is that old saying about repeating an action that has failed, repeatedly, in the past and expecting a different outcome? Perhaps repeating programs that not only have repeatedly failed, are failing today, but do extensive damage to the organism they are attempting to help/repair, is something other than wise?
Unfortunately, most schools teach that the New Deal WORKED - and it is an article of faith among liberals. This despite the fact that any even-handed study shows that government meddling caused and extended the Depression.
News junkie said O was bright, not wise. I agree, he is capably of encyclopedic knowledge. He is also susceptible to utopian visions and can easily be manipulated by those that he thinks is "smart" like him.
