We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Who lacks medical insurance in the US?

Here's the real story about who is and isn't covered by medical insurance.


Not that the facts matter all that much in politics - and everybody wants a free Easter buffet.


Related: How the government plans to create its own medical insurance monopoly. (Just like public schools.) And once they have done that, they will drive through their rationing, rules, and controls. - and freedom in medical care will disappear. At that point, Doctor, your proud and noble profession will be transformed into involuntary servitude to the State rather than voluntary servitude to your patient and, at that point, patient, your treatment choices will disappear.


Then watch "doc-assisted" suicide for those over 60 become all the rage in government circles.


It's one more government power and money grab.

I self-insure.

If it's too costly in the end, I'll take the option of just dying, thanks.

In the meantime, no hassles, no premiums, no permitted and unpermitted procedures.

Me too, Bird Dog. I think that sometime last summer when we were discussing the unflagging efforts of our liberal left to get us into 'universal health care,' I mentioned that the Brits and the Canadians [where universal health care has broken down so badly] have resorted to a dual insurance path. They pay into the universal health care thingie because they have to, and then sock away savings so that if and when the 'universal' system fails them, they can pay in full for private care when there is an emergency. Which there always is.

We have a very high deductible and reasonably low premiums. So we pay our bills for ordinary medical care and have insurance in case we're overwhelmed with something horribly expensive. In either case, we're not a burden on the parish.

If medicine gets socialized, I plan to be plugged into the black market. I just hope there'll be one.

The entire debate is one of deflection.

There are two issues. One BD points out which is government power and control.

The other is more deadly. It is who gets to choose who lives and who dies. It is the philosophy or the culture of death so tightly embraced by the moral relativists that comprise the left.

By definition, a person will consume approximately two thirds of his health care expenditures in the last third of his life. (When you get older things begin to break. Anyone over 40 knows this.)

By rationing care, the government gets to choose who it deems to be productive and worthy of care. It is yet another slippery moral slope that only the godless, amoral left would rush to embrace.

The best way to improve health care, including access, is to apply consumer directed principles. I encourage everyone to be very vocal about this. Your life may one day depend upon it.

Barrett ... What you describe about the last third of life is what gives me nightmares. When the all-powerful knowledge-less civilians get the power of life or death over the poor old folks, they'd better not have to go to the hospital. Because after you're 80 or so, the civilians on the universal-health care board will decide that you are consuming too much medication and too much time and will sneak into your room at night and give you the Fatal Injection. And it's bye-bye to you.

I wish it were just a nightmare. But with Obama at the helm of this country, I fear that it's coming closer to reality every day.

the implications for a society institutionalizing such fundamental disrespect for human life --are almost too horrible to contemplate. Such a system won't just strt up on old persons --it will be workinhg the minds of every person old enouigh to know of it --probably about six years old. Cannibalism comes to mind --why not? Great protein source. We'll make the Neanderthals, who buried their dead with great respect, more human than we. We'll reverse our species' long development of the sense of motion through time and space, from 'forward to' to 'backwards from'.

Damn, it pisses me off. If we want better medical care, lets create more doctors. It's time for a medical school in Idaho, for instance.

None of this rationing shit.

Instead, we build a bullet train from LA to Vegas.

Michelle Malkin has a news story on the latest liberal demonizing of the conservatives. The Dept. of Human Services has issued a report on the 'tea party' grassroots movement, indicating that the peaceful protests which have springing up across the United States are a terrorist movement resembling the Weather Underground, and similar violent protest movements of the 1960s.

I kid you not, as we used to say. The Weather Underground? Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn's murderous group? This is just a suggestion: look out for leftwing fringe groups like ACORN [which is actually a government-funded group] to send agitators to our peaceful protests and try to raise trouble. It's the Chicago way.

And I thought the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution guaranteed us the right to peaceful assembly.

Where are the SEALs when we need them?
